( Which makes no sense in this case, she should be fatter, not bone thin Scooby gained 5# when he went on thyroid. There is a sick thyroid that is a response to illness somewhere in the body. In advanced age seniors, I have chosen to treat and several have had a great last year or two (some 6 months--but at least they felt good!) Guest tammymacb Posted February 25, 2009 Share Posted February 25, 2009 Update- Well, so far all I know is her Free T 4 confirmed that Shuggie is, indeed, hypothyroid. She has an appointment next week to be Xrayed to rule out any other problems. To me, she looks worse than before....she's even thinner and acting "strangely" now, when before there was no change in her behavior. I may have to move up the appointment. However, no matter how bad she looks, she retains enough energy to dig gynormous holes in the backyard. At least that's something. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest tammymacb Posted February 26, 2009 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Well, Shuggie didn't hold off until today for a recheck at the vet. I got home from work after 10 PM to a dog who was panting, staring off into space, pacing and obviously really sick. I spoke to Bonnie ( my step daughter who's a vet tech ) who was home with her in the afternoon who said Shuggie had been lethargic and it was obvious she didn't feel good, but had appeared stable all day. We took her to the local evet. When we arrived her temp was 105.4, her heart rate was 200 and she was in mild respiratory distress. They took her straight back to cool her, start her on fluids and antibiotics. They did do a chest Xray which was basically normal. No masses were seen. She can palpate a mass between her abdomen ad the bottom of her ribs. She'll do an ultrasound this morning to see what it is. I'm losing hope that my girl will be coming home.
