Bonnie did well with the new chemo and is home now. Side effects may show up in a few days.

I found out some more information today. The new chemo medication is doxorubicin (also called adriamycin). She got that this morning by IV along with some fluids. Dr. Couto made up a new protocol for Bonnie.

I'll back up a little bit and tell you more about yesterday. All of the vet techs came in when they heard Bonnie wasn't doing well. It was neat, but also a little overwhelming (in a good way though). They all love her a lot. She has her GT fan club and her vet's office fan club! :D My husband was crying and I was trying to hold it together. ;)

Dr. Couto recommended changing everything...not doing the vincristine as planned. There was worry about her pancreas and problems there. But, a CPL test was negative for pancreatitis. Yesterday, Dr. Couto asked that Dex S/P be given. That's another steroid. Our vet was concerned about giving two steroids at the same time (pred and this Dex), but we followed Dr. Couto's recommendations. We also did an injection of Cerenia. She hates that because it burns a little, but we knew it would help her. She cried so bad, for so long and also peed on the floor. :weep That was tough. We waited awhile and fed her some at about 9 pm.

Today, all of the girls kept watch over Bonnie. She got the doxorubicin and an injection of Benadryl with it. They also gave her some fluids while she was there.

So, Bonnie is hanging there. She met me at the door and then relaxed with DH on the couch. :blush Fingers and toes are crossed here. Thanks for all of the concern. Keep it comin'! :goodluck

If the adriamycin makes her nauseated try the generic Zofran. We were told to use it prophylactically the day before Adriamycin (12 hours prior) and then on day one and possibly day two.

Good luck, we are thinking of you.

:candle We're keeping this lit until Bonnie feels better

Sounds like a plan! Thank you.

She seems to be doing better tonight. Didn't eat much at dinnertime, but she just ate about a 1/2 can of canned Evanger's beef. I've got some chicken breasts to cook up tomorrow. She usually will eat that without any trouble. We've got to get her weight up. She's down to 49 pounds (usually around mid-50s).

Her lymph nodes are definitely down since the treatment yesterday and today. She's also moving around a bit more and playing a little too. :) I'm nervous to get through the next few days. I hope the side effects don't make things worse again. :( One day at a time though. Today is better than yesterday, thank goodness. :colgate
