Guest joedogs_mom Posted October 30, 2008 Share Posted October 30, 2008 (edited) Joe, our first Greyhound who won our hearts and caused to adopt 3 more Greys, is not well at all. Since July, he has lost a lot of weight, has been off and on steroids for degenerative disc problems, and recently is just not well. Our vet, Dr. Pearce, thinks he is struggling with the disc problems but on top of that has some sort of infection as his white count was almost 19,000 (twice what it should be) yesterday. He did not sleep 2 nights ago (neither did I). He was panting, restless (typical problems after he flares up his neck/back...he was already on steroids at this time). Yesterday he wouldn't eat for most of the day. I finally force-fed him antibiotics, new pain pills, an appetite stimulator, and stool firmer-upper, and he *did* eat last night and this morning. He had THAT look in his eyes yesterday. He seems a bit more peppy today and his eyes look more alive and happy. He is still not well so I'm asking for prayers. He means the world to my husband and me and is the alpha around our house. He is like a child to us. And it's times like these when I'm feeling SO guilty for basically pushing he and our others to the backburner (I have a 20 month old son). I'm so sorry I can't walk you as much Joe or take you to the park or spoil you silly with Greenies and trips to the dog bakery. I'm so sorry for yelling at you to get out of the kitchen when Pierce (my son) is in his highchair eating. I'm so sorry for being irritated with your occasional middle of the night potty breaks. Just stay with us a bit longer...please... Just thought I'd add...Joe will be 10 in January. Guest joedogs_mom Posted October 30, 2008 Share Posted October 30, 2008 thank you all so much -- he looked a LOT better (his eyes) when i went home for lunch today. he even ate his second square meal of the day! we're trying to get weight back on...he's still not anywhere close to 100% but ANYTHING is an improvement over the last 2 days.
