At least you have come to a decision, however painful that might have been - and I'm sure it was. But this frees you from the stress of not knowing what to do.... and you can spend the rest of the time you have together making beautiful memories and loving each other.

I'm so sorry Christie. He's way too young. :cry1 :cry1 :cry1

I've only just seen this thread, but I just wanted to say that we faced a similar situation with our Teddy 2 years ago. He was only 6 years old and had osteo in his shoulder. We agonised over what to do, but eventually decided against amputation as he was a very large dog and already had ruptured tendons in his other front leg. We decided to spoil him rotten and let him go peacefully before the pain got too bad. I still sometimes wonder if we made the right choice, but I do derive some comfort from knowing that he didn't suffer too much. From his point of view, he had a lovely few weeks and then went gently to sleep for the last time.

You have my sympathy.

We know how hard the decision is when faced with this. You are doing what you know is best for your sweet boy. Make lots of memories, take lots of photos and spoil him rotten. Celebrate every day. Hugs and scritches.

The arthritis he has in his other leg is the biggest consideration, followed closely by our situation here at home.

You don't need my comments, since you've already made your decision, but my heart clenched for you when you mentioned his arthritis in your other post. Nelly had terrible arthritis in her hip, and when she injured her good leg, it was agonizing--and we only had two steps to go down to get outside. At 75 lbs, she was too big for me to lift/carry; the sling was painful and distressing to her... all in all, it was just awful. In a way, I'm grateful we/she only had to deal with it for 48 hours. I don't know how we would have managed long term (unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to find out), or in a house where we *had* to do stairs.

Prayers for you in the coming days.

We've had mostly good days with Argos. The past two have been difficult because Argos spit out one of his Rimadyls - we didn't notice at the time, but have since been trying to get ahead of the pain again. Dummy. Anyway, I've gotten some really great photos of him with baby Lucas, so enjoy! Also, we did a little family photo shoot this weekend, so I'll include one of those.

That's my cleavage that they are both resting on... :P
