Guest exracersmom Posted July 15, 2008 Share Posted July 15, 2008 (edited) I really don't know where to start...I lost my beloved "Buddy" on Saturday morning. My heart hurts so much. I have another greybaby, Penny who is 12 yos who is missing Buddy also. He was only 8 1/2 yos. He was diagnosed with kidney disease back in November I think. He had lost almost 10 lbs, his fur was coming out and he was not eating. I took him to the vet on Friday and his creatinine was at 12.3. The vet was very worried. My dh and I made the decision to let him pass with dignity. I did not want him to suffer any longer. Now my dh thinks we should have tried to do more. But I know that my Budboy was suffering. He was throwing up and having diarrhea. I held his head in my lap and stroked his chest while he went to the bridge and I kept telling him that he was momma's best boy. I feel lost without him and I cannot get throught the day without crying. He was always the one who greeted me at the top of the steps when I came home, watched movies and ate snackies with daddy. My dh can't even go down the snack aisle at the grocery store because he always bought something that he and Buddy could share (Big Cheezits and Nutter Butter cookies). Letting a cherished pet go with dignity is a huge gift that we can give them. That is a huge act of love. I also think it's natural to second guess and to go over the "what if's" in your brain. Some of that is just grieving and feeling so raw. I can tell by your post how much Buddy was loved by both of you. He was one lucky hound to have landed in your house.
