Guest LUVMYBABIES Posted February 25, 2008 Share Posted February 25, 2008 I couldn't do this less than four weeks ago, but unbelievably, it's happened again so I must. It hurt to much to put it in print. On January 29th, we lost our first greyhound Buddy. He would have been 11 on March 8th. After 39 days of fighting, his heart couldn't take it anymore. All indications pointed to Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We didn't put him through the endoscopy because we were afraid he wouldn't heal. He taught us so much about being "greyhound" people. He was the perfect goodwill ambassador. He was such a gentle giant and there wasn't one person that met him that wasn't impressed by him. Even non-dog people liked him. Our family of five went down to four and the impact was indescribable. Well, Saturday morning, Jakey was coming in the back door when he fell and broke his leg. A trip to the vet and x-rays showed a horrible break above the left front elbow starting at what appeared to be a tumor. Jake would have been 13 next month and had weak back legs. I told our vet we knew what we needed to do. We let our little old man go. We only had Jakey 5 1/2 months. He came to us because his former "family" moved and left him to roam the streets. Luckily, a lady found him and called our group. We decided that we were meant for him and he was meant for us. He gave us more in that short time than most people give in their lifetime. We are eternally grateful that both of these boys came into our lives and changed them for the better. It is just so much harder to loose them so close together. Buddy sounds like he was a wonderful dog, and very well loved. Thank goodness Jake found you before he had to leave, and he was able to have the forever family he deserved.
