  1. I've let 14 dogs go. The majority were greyhounds. None had osteo. Some had cancer. Some were just old, very old. I *think* I let them go on the right day, except for Pudge. I waited a few days too long with her. And still in her eyes I only saw love and a regret that she couldn't stay longer as she was my velcro mutt. She knew her body was failing her. I swear there's a look they give. One when they tell you it's OK to make that final vet appointment. The sign is oh so very subtle, or maybe I'm reading my own needs into the moment. The other look is when they are released from pain by the first injection. The body relaxes. Sometimes they look at me. Never have I felt that look said "why" or "no". In between injections my little galgo Niña, sat partway up and kissed my vet. I am sorry that you have such difficult decisions to make.
  2. How long ago was her spay? The hair looks shorter - skin rash from the shaving prep?
  3. I emailed him and heard back within 24 hours. He may be out of the country but will still respond. Others have called and will hopefully post here for you to give more info. I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this. Check this thread for more info: http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/305786-osteo-thread-part-8/?hl=osteo
  4. Will the crate fit in the mud room temporarily? Does the mud room have an exit door to the outside? Is this the door you always use to enter/exit the house? Just thinking about possible escapes.
  5. Teo, it will take a long time for your mom's heart to mend so please send a sign that you are happy and whole across the Bridge. And if you need to get into any mischief, go find Nina.
  6. I got a similar message when I consulted him about Mazy, but then he soon personally responded.
  7. Thinking of you and Teo today and sending hugs to you and your furry family.
  8. How was her megasophagus diagnosed? Were the urine samples you brought in from the very first catch of the day?
  9. Erika, would you like me to post a picture of Morty in this thread?
  10. Saying goodbye to the beautiful greyhounds and their friends who left us in February 2015. As you run with the wind send a caress to wipe our tears. Gone but never forgotten. Loved forever. Run free with those who have gone before you. Greet all those that will follow. Morty Jake Teo Bea Bob Hughes, dad to Tick and Mac Quasar Paisley Opal Alley, the horse Fuzzy Huston Cocoa Rocco Finnian Lenna JC's Sea Bird, momma dog Ryder They'll always be with us, just slightly beyond the point that we can see with our eyes. In our heart, though, they'll be bright and clear, as they always were.
  11. Nooooooooooo! It was an honor to have met your Morty.
  12. Could be static electricity in the coat. I've had some dogs who liked their coat but never loved it. And I've had some that no matter how cold or snowy, they'd refuse to wear a coat. My most stubborn old boys who needed a coat refused fleece but did like their flannel coats from Houndtime.
  13. I'm wondering about the coat too. If it's fleece there could be a lot of static electricity coming off of it. It almost sounds like the housekeeper may have done something to make her fearful. Is she able to hold her pee if left alone for 9 hours?
  14. Could you post a video of Charlie gagging?
  15. Looking back over your posts it looks like you started the prozac on Jan 17th. It will take more time to have an effect. Hang in there.
  16. Your wife's description of his eye movement - could it have been that the eyes were moving back and forth horizontally? If so that may have a been a "vestibular incident" rather than an epileptic seizure. How has he been acting since the incident?
  17. Just curious, why put the beds back to being side by side? Even though accidental, a sleep startle could result in a nip. Even though they were together at the adoption center for 6 months they may not have been sleeping side by side there. They sure do have their own unique personalities, don't they?
  18. Girl, you are busting out a huge smile in every one of those pictures.
  19. The calendar looks great Trudy. I ordered several for gifts.
  20. How is Jazz feeling? Happy, sad, eating/not eating? Any behavioral changes? Do you have any of them lab values that diagnosed the kidney disease? Can you post them so we can review them for you? Is your vet greyhound-savvy when it comes to the difference in test values? Toe amputation are easy. Hopefully you won't have to deal with mrsa again. A spleen rupture will make her crash quickly. I would repeat the blood and urine tests and ultrasound again. If not showing signs of improvement I don't think I would proceed with surgery.
  21. Ask your vet about Trazadone. It won't drug him but will calm him down for up to 4 hours. Prozac takes several weeks to take effect, plus the dose must be tapered starting and ending. I'd rather use Trazadone than Xanax. Trazadone is inexpensive and your vet can give you an Rx for the people pharmacy. I used Trazadone with one with extreme stress at the vet. We did return visits to the vet just to test the dose's effectiveness. She was calm and did not act stoned. Of our 15 dogs only one really needed medication when we weren't home. She was destroying the house from curtains to floors. We used Clomicalm, again building then tapering the dose at the end. Only used it 3-4 months. It took her that long to finally realize she was home and safe and that we'd be returning to her.
