  1. Jan, I know how heartbreaking it was to say goodbye to Pal. Sometimes the pain is too great to deal with and must be set aside until your heart is ready. Pal was a very special, sweet, adorable pup as well as your long-time friend. He will always be missed. MiMi spent the happiest months of her life at Camp Greyhound. She is the girl her finally found her pack and companionship with the Campers. My thoughts are with you are this difficult anniversary.
  2. Sweetie looks like she has discovered that happiness is a place called Camp Greyhound. She seems to be just bursting with joy while playing with the toy and running around in the video. I think you have a very contented "Foster" Camper. Sweetie is a beauty!
  3. I am so sorry that this was Nike's time to leave. He has been a part of every Campers life. The photos of Two Old Guys showed what great friends he and Pal had become over the years. Rest in peace Nike. You will always be remembered as the special honorary Camper. Enjoy those Milk Bones.
  4. I am so sorry you have lost Jonelle so suddenly. I know how you feel. We lost Tasha suddenly on Easter Sunday to a cardiac event. She had been perfectly healthy with a recent good checkup at the vets, and had enjoyed a nice walk the day before. All was well it seemed. Suddenly the next morning she collapsed outside. We rushed her to the e-vet but she passed away within a few hours. She apparently had an abnormality within her heart and it was her time to leave us. It is a shock. It is also the natural thing to look for signs that you missed. Please don't be hard on yourself. There is no way you could have known this would happen, especially after having her checked at the vets. With a sudden loss there just is no warning.

    Sweet Wink

Liz, I am truly sorry you had to say goodbye to beautiful Wink. May you feel some comfort every time you think of the wonderful moments you have spent with your sweet girl. I am sure Finn and Wink are sharing a lovely reunion.
  6. Please call your e-vet and describe what happened. As Jan said, it could be cardiac and it would be best to have him checked as soon as possible. There is medication that can be administered so just to be safe contact them and they'll advise you about bringing him in. Keep us posted on how he is doing.

    Hey Batman

I am so sorry Batman had to leave you. We all have regrets about the little moments. Batman loved every minute he spent with you. If only they could stay with us longer.
  8. I find myself moved to tears at your beautiful tribute to Sam. Your love for him shines through as well as the pain at his loss. What a handsome, funny, sweet boy your Sam was. He had a wonderful life with you and knew how much he was loved. If only they could stay forever. I am so sorry he had to leave.
  9. Tony, I am so sorry to read of your loss. I too remember when Zero came home to you. It was lovely to read about how the two of you bonded and the wonderful relationship you developed. Zero was a handsome, happy boy and he always knew how much you loved him. Although he left you far too soon, he will always be in your heart.
  10. This is just a thought because of our recent experiences. When Fiona was drinking a great deal of water in April and having other issues such as incontinence, we had a blood pressure test taken. She had extremely high blood pressure and was placed on medication to treat it. Within a few days of adding the meds, her excessive drinking went down considerably. The incontinence medications had not been working but with her blood pressure under control we have not had any other leaking problems. I have read that higher protein readings in the urine can be related to high blood pressure. It may not be something Missy is experiencing but its an easy thing to have your vet check out. Good luck with Missy!
  11. There are a number of possibilities but I agree that the incontinence is probably related. Have you had blood work taken by the vet for testing? Has it been suggested that you try some Prednisone to see if it would reduce inflammation that could be affecting the spine? We had a greyhound that had difficulty with his back legs and would knuckle under with his back feet. The Prednisone relieved the inflammation and in time he could pull himself up and walk under his own power. He was 13 at the time. Good luck with your boy.
  12. I remember so well when Sadi first came into your life. Such a beautiful and sweet girl. Your love for her shines through every word you wrote and the photo speaks volumes to the bond you shared. I'm so sorry she had to leave you. There are so many wonderful memories of your time together.
  13. Jan, my heart hurts for you at Sorella's passing. Your sweet, elegant, funny girl will always be remembered. TPGIT - there could not have been more fitting description of your lovely girl. Rest well sweetheart. You will be dearly missed.
  14. Fiona likes bananas too. It will be interesting to see how she reacts throughout the treatment and how her appetite is affected. She seems a little "off" today but I'm not sure if I am reading too much into it. They said the affects would start on days 2-5 after the chemo. It is good to hear that Charlie did fine on the doxorubicin. I'm glad he enjoyed the bananas again when the chemo was over.
  15. I'm sorry Pearl had to go through this. Fiona had X-rays taken the day before the surgery which were clear. The oncologist has planned on taking more x-rays on the day of her fourth chemo. She'll also have an ultra-sound done as well. He did mention that the liver and lungs were at risk from this type of splenic sarcoma. His plan is to monitor her closely to be aware of any changes as we go through the treatment. Thank you all for your good thoughts for our girl. She is such a sweetheart.
  16. Thanks Nancy. Today is not the day for Fiona. How these simple words have come to mean so much to us in the last few years. With the treatment, we are hoping to have many wonderful moments with our little fawn girl.
  17. It's good to hear that Bruiser did well on this medication as it is the one the oncologist is using. With the 4th dose, she will be given an ultra-sound and repeat x-rays. Although we caught this early, it's impossible to tell if it had already spread. She will be 12 in August so we are hoping to have her with us for many months to come.
  18. We received the biopsy results of her spleen after its removal and it showed a Fibrosarcoma of high grade (not what we were hoping for). This morning we had our consultation with the oncologist. Fiona received her first chemo treatment and is scheduled for 5 more, 3 weeks apart. His prognosis for her is 6-8 months, depending on whether or not the cancer spread before removal of the spleen. As we still don't have the biopsy report for her kidneys, there are more concerns that have to be sorted out. On the plus side, her blood pressure medication has been working and even under stress this morning, her reading was on the low side. We'll be adjusting the medication accordingly. Fiona has been acting content, happy and totally back to her normal sweet self. I'm not sure whether or not we'll see the side affects of the treatment but we have been given medication to get her through it. Please keep her in your thoughts as we travel down this road.
  19. I am so sorry for your loss. It has always been a pleasure to see the photos of Heidi and Betty. In all her photos your beautiful girl is happy, funny and enjoying her life. This very special shy girl came to just the right home. Although Heidi has left you far too soon, there are so many wonderful moments to cherish. May they bring you comfort and in time smiles.
  20. It has been a very stressful 3 months since we lost Tasha. I miss her every day and worrying about Fiona has been mixed in with my heartache over the loss of our beautiful white greyhound. It is comforting to see Fiona bouncing back from this surgery and hopefully the days ahead will bring good news. Her incision looks clean without complications and she seems more alert as the day goes on. Thank you everyone for all your good thoughts. Fiona is our special little bounce who came to us to heal our hearts after the loss of our elegant fawn Lucy. We knew she was a keeper from day one.
  21. Fiona had the splenectomy performed on Weds. and is doing very well. Her blood pressure was extremely high during the time she was in the hospital. After spending some time with her yesterday afternoon and feeding her some chicken and rice from home, her pressure went down dramatically. It was decided she would recuperate faster with us so we were able to bring her home. She is eating well, resting and looking so much better just sleeping on her own bed. It will be 1-2 weeks before we know the results of the biopsies on her spleen and kidneys. Hopefully there will be good news and we can put this behind us. Please keep good thoughts that we will hear that beautiful word - BENIGN!
  22. My heart goes out to you on your loss. We recently lost our healthy 12 year old greyhound to cardiac arrest. It happened suddenly, she was coming inside from her normal morning routine when she staggered and fell. Although she recovered enough for us to rush her to the e-vet, she had another event a few hours later and she was gone. Our vet felt she had a congenital defect that caused the cardiac event. I know the feeling of unreality that your healthy pup has suddenly and all too soon passed away. Please know I am thinking of you and understand how lost you are feeling. I am truly sorry your boy is gone.
  23. Thanks for mentioning the connection with blood pressure & leakage. Fiona is taking DES but it didn't seem to be working (thus the suggestion of Proin). Since she started on the bp medication, she has been mostly dry. We wondered if getting the hypertension under control was the reason.
  24. Others may have some good ideas on what to do before you decide on a vet visit. Proin might be suggested by your vet to treat incontinence. It works well for many dogs. However, be sure to have Wylie tested for hypertension before giving the Proin. Fiona recently became incontinent. We asked to have her tested for Hypertension before putting her on Proin. It turned out she had extremely high readings and is now on two medications for blood pressure. The Proin could have caused a stroke and is not advised for dogs with blood pressure issues. Just something to think about in the event that this is mentioned for Wylie as treatment. Our Hobbes had a stroke a week after starting Proin and the neurologist said the Proin was the cause. We weren't aware at the time of the issues with hypertension.
  25. I have been using Tomlyn Protecta-Pad Paw Pad & Elbow Cream for a number of years on Zeke's feet. It is used to soften the Corns but has also left all of his pads very soft as it does moisturize and heal cracks, etc. I bought it through Amazon. This might do the trick for Taylor.
