  5. This is the problem for Poot and Dodger. The OP is right, the magnets on these doors are very strong. Like the OP my cats can push through it but the dogs don't seem to understand they really need to push hard to get it to move. So I am going to also remove the magnets ( when it gets warmer in upstate NY) and try that. I think Dodger will get it with a little food encouragement. Pooter will be a bit more of a challenge. OP, 12 days is not long. Pooter is in her third year here, Dodger his second. I had one hound who never, ever learned to do the dog door. I think he was the exception rather than the rule. Most greyhounds can easily learn a dog door. Keep at it. Edit to add I have the same door as the OP.

  9. The first thing I would do is get at least a second and maybe third opinion with a specialist. I would never accept my hound has to be in pain and there is nothing I can do for it. I am not a huge fan of amputation, especially for cancer. But for a young dog like your girl with no other issues ( or issues that can be easily managed) if there are no other options, I would consider it. Accept she has to be in pain and there is nothing I can do? Nope, would not accept that.
  10. It is not something I would do. Agree with the x-pen suggestion.

  21. Please do not feel as if you let Cake down. Fire is a tragedy that can, as you said, happen to anyone at any time. I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Just words from a stranger, but they are all I have to offer you. Rest well Cake and Gussy.
  22. What was your reaction to alpha dog running over to stand over the shy dog last night?
