  1. Too many variables for there to be one set answer. Racing weight really does not factor in IMHO. For example; I have one male who raced at 72 pounds. Now, as a pet, he weighs about 75 pounds and looks good. He is a very muscular hound with a powerful build. I have another male who raced quite successfully at about 76 pounds. He weighs 82 pounds now and would be o.k. with another 2 or 3 pounds. He raced very lean. There was no arguing with the success he was having at that weight so he stayed there. Now, as a pet, he looks great in the mid 80 pound range. He is tall and lanky. For comparison, I also have a tiny little female who raced at about 57 pounds. Now, as a 7 year old pet, she weighs around 62 pounds. She just looks at food and she gains weight. No point in starving her to keep her at "race" weight. She is not a racer any longer. I keep her as trim as possible, but within reason. All of my dogs get a lot of exercise. Muscle weighs more than fat and all three are quite fit. If your hound looks good (not soft or fat) and feels good that is really all he needs to be.
  2. I am so, so glad she enjoyed her lure Judy. I am also grateful I got to meet your sweet girl. We are thinking about you, Mike and Kevin tonight. I am so sorry your bubble wrap baby had to leave. Rest well precious Gee.
  3. Rest well sweet Gee. I am beyond thrilled i got to meet you and pet you. Judy, Mike and Kevin, our thoughts are with you.
  4. I am so sorry for your loss Chris. Rest well Dude.
  5. Crap! Hoping Dr. B can get Gee around this corner and she will continue to recover as she was. More prayers for baby girl and her family.
  6. Glad it worked out. Interestingly enough Cracker has to have another dog around to eat. Or really do anything. He doesn't like to go out alone and he won't eat alone. Just needs to know the other dog is there. Doesn't have to see him, but he has to be there.
  7. :lol Thanks! Her real name is Tru Calling. Pooter just emerged out of that somehow. I feed the two boys exactly as you described. Cracker in the kitchen, Dodger in the dining room. There is a door between. Pooter eats upstairs. Neither of the boys do stairs but my clever little girl does. The upstairs is her sanctuary from her rowdy brothers.
  8. My hounds eat in separate rooms but not because of food aggression. Cracker gets the most to eat and eats slowly. Dodger inhales his food immediately. Pooter gets the least to eat and also eats slowly. Dodger would go charging around trying to get in all the other bowls if I let him. Pooter would probably allow it. Cracker would probably take exception to it. We don't find out.
  9. Excellent news for your grand old lady Judy! Continuing to keep Miss Gee in my thoughts and prayers.
  10. I am so sorry for your loss Heather and Ken.
  11. Might be worth getting a second opinion Brie. Keeping your sweet girlie in my thoughts.
  12. My dogs are pretty active. We are out and about every day we can weather permitting. Anywhere from 2 to 5 or more miles depending on where we go. Not much of the terrain we cover is flat. My dogs are also able to be off leash most of the time. They cover many more miles than I do.
  13. It's not clear from your post if your dog is the only one muzzled? All the dogs should me muzzled or none of them muzzled. One dog muzzled has no way to defend himself if a pack turns on him. That said, I would also not let him play with dogs smaller than he is. Keep him on the big dog side. Better yet, if you can, find an all greyhound play group to run your boy. The more experienced members are better able to evaluate your boy's behavior and advise you. Good luck!

  19. Are you kidding? If some jackwagon "slugged" one of my dogs there would be no almost went to jail. I guarantee said jackwagon would look one hell of a lot worse. Have I had a similar experience? No, never. Idiot.
