  1. Thanks everyone. We had to go out for a couple of hours. During that time Jake half removed his bandage and moved from one dog bed to another. He did id a nice neat poop on the floor next to the bed too, woops! But, he wasn't stranded and looked pretty pleased with himself.
  2. Jane I hate seeing this. Sending you some hugs, prayers and lots of good thoughts.
  3. I wish he was feeling better He had a good night, and woke me up at 4:50 to go out. Getting up is really hard for him, I hate having to haul him up and then he tries to go back to bed so I have to fight him forward. Once we get going, he can slowly walk out. He isn't falling when he pees, so while his back end is weak it can support him. He is eating well, drinking and looking for treats and loving. His leg and likely his chest is really painful though. When I go to look at it, he licks his lips, yawns and looks away - cleary telling me to go the hell away. I looked back through a facebook conversation with Miki our vet, after his fall on Dec 31st it took 14 days before the swelling in the same leg went down. I am pretty sure this is going to take a long time too. Only this time he can't get himself up without major help. It makes me really sad, and conflicted to see him like this. I hope I'm doing the right thing waiting this out.......I think I am, but.........
  4. You have my prayers and lots and lots of positive thoughts.

  6. I'm so sorry. Elvis was a stunner! Godspeed Elvis
  7. I just sent this email to my vet Jake is eating well and drinking thank goodness. I put a tensor bandage on his front leg to give some support, he is clearly in pain there and hesitates to put it down to walk. I've been getting him up to go out on their regular potty schedule. Jake is hating that I make him get up and tries to go back to bed, but I persist and once he is out on the ground he pees and looks around. Just now he gave himself a shake, and stayed upright! I haven't seen him shake since he got hurt. I let him decide what he wants to do, which is usually go back in. The two steps require assistance and I keep holding on until we are over that nasty door sill. He walked back to his bed without me and lowered himself down without flopping. He's also laying upright and watching what's going on, cleaning himself and generally doing what he usually does. Grandy and Jet have been taking turns laying beside, or on the same bed with him. Little improvements, but we`ll take them!
  8. PJ I`m so sorry. It`s never, ever easy no matter how long they are with you or how old they are. Godspeed Wiki
  9. Grandy actually used them that way as she explored them. She's also poked one so hard with her nose it had to be straightened. We plan to fence off that area to landscape. Not sure it's worth the effort, but we have to do something.
  10. After 2 plus years of leg swelling, lameness and fever he recovered from an unidentified TBD This poor old man cannot catch a break. He was diagnosed with Lumbar Sacral Stenosis in December. We pretty much got that under control with Meloxicam, Gabapenten and Anti Flam. He was actually playing over the past week. He isn't the most steady in the back end, his right left leg is quite weak, but he compensates well and is full of life. When I got home from work on Wednesday, he was fine! Pushed his way to the front of the pack and got his ear rubs then went back to his bed as he knows my routine. I went upstairs to get changed and check my email. When I came back down, he looked okay just laying on his bed waiting for dinner. But, when I put his dinner down he didn't get up - very unusual. I called him and he got up but held up his right front foot, then hobbled to his dish. He had a nasy swollen leg in January from a fall that left him with a sprained wrist. So I thought "crap he's reinjured it!" As the evening progressed he clearly strugggled to get up, he couldn't position his back legs to get leverage. Yesterday I got him up then had to go to work. That's the sucky part of my job as a pre school teacher, someone has to be there to open. I got a supply teacher and came home to find him slightly better - thank you tramadol. I emailed our vet and filled her in. She offered to come in to see him at the clinic even though it was her day off. I really wanted to be sure there was nothing neurological going on. After a thorough exam, during which he gave her hell she agreed that he most likely had wrenched his leg somehow. She really believes that with rest, and TLC he can regain his former mobility. A friend lent me an assist harness, and that has made a huge difference. It lets me haul his big ole butt up and then guide him around. Now that we have things under control, I can see that only his wrist and his elbow react to pain. That is severely problematic when you are left with only one good leg. I'm also not convinced that one isn't hurting either, if only from the strain. Since this really does look like an injury we are giving him time to heal. I did try no tramadol and just robaxin and his usual meloxicam and gabapentin last night, but he coudln't get up at all unaided this morning. Now that he's had tram he is able to get his back legs under him with some help from Mom. The good think is that he is eating if I just put the kibble on a placemat on his bed. He tries to get up if I give treats to the other two and paws me to rub his belly. At almost 13 with a worn out body, he is feisty. I think it's going to be a long few days but I'm really hopeful we can get him back to full mobility soon. Prayers and good thought would be appreciated by Jake and his Mom. If you stuck with this so far, here's a reward - pics from Monday afternoon. Gratuitous shot of Jet in the background. My handsome boy, he'll be 13 on May 15th.

  12. I'm thrilled for all of you! I can't wait to meet him. Hmmmmmm wondering when I can make a trip down? I'll have to find somewhere to stay though? Congratulations Jeff! You have the bestest family!
  13. Alicia I'm so sorry. Godspeed beautiful Ava, you were loved!
  14. I bought capsules. The ones I have are made by Organika 500 mg. I just drop it into their food, once a day. I just checked and Grandy is corn free! Jet had what looked like the start of one and I gave him the capsules too. He has nothing on his toe now. Wow I wish this worked for us! We did Bee Propolis orally for over a year and....nothing! I had no idea that there was a topical. After reading this thread and a few others after searching corns this morning I figured I did it wrong. I think I'm going to try the topical if I can find it. That's the truly mystifying thing about corns, what works for some fails miserably for others. I really wish the vets could figure this one out. Wnile it isn't life threatening it sure can impact quality of life.

  16. Hi. So do you think the wart ade did make a difference? I called the website that has it in Canada and they can ship it to the US. Is that worth a try in your opinion? We'll try that if Grandy's corn comes back. I discovered a while back that Grandy not only had one, but two corns the first week in February. One on her front right foot was big, almost 1/4" accross and almost as high, she also had one on her back left, not quite as big but still stuck out quite a bit. I showed our vet the corns mid February at her check up. Miki said they looked like I could work them out if I wanted to try that, if that didn't work she would hull them. Derek, trihounds, stopped by to pick up a pendant he had ordered and I was telling him about the corns. I hadn't tried removing them as I'd been really busy. When I went to show him I couldn't find the one on her right foot. I actually thought it might have been on the other foot???? but no, no corn. The one on the back foot was considerably smaller as well. I had put Grandy on oral bee propalis as soon as I saw the corns. This is the second greyhound I've used the oral bee propalis on. Jake had a corn many years ago, maybe 5 years, and his disapeared except for a slight circle mark on his pad. He still has the circle, but nothing else. I stopped the bee propolis about a month after the corn disapeared. Grandy also has that same slight circle but the huge corn that was there is gone. The corn on her back foot is almost gone but not quite.
