  1. Hard to believe it's been that long Tracey. I treasure my Sandy Paws memories with that adorable brindle girl.
  2. That looks exactly like a couple that Peanut got. She had a hemangioma removed from her toe, but a few months later had something that looked exactly like that on her belly. It disapeared on it's own, but then she got another one a few months later. If that's what it is, they bleed like crazy if they are accidently scratched open, just sayin'...
  3. Cathie, wmlcml6 has had a lot of success with Coconut Oil. One of the girls had severe flea dermatitis and she rubbed it on, plus put a bit in her food. It really helped with the itching and redness.
  4. Darn I wish I'd seen this earlier. As you know, John is one of my special boys. Jake has had symptoms somewhat similar and has always tested neg for TBD's of all kinds. However, he does respond to treatment with doxy and our vet is pretty sure that he has one of the rarer forms of ehrlichia. He's been treated 4 times in total now. Once about 3 years ago but not a high dose, so he relapsed about 5 months later. That got us just over 2 years symptom free. He had a relapse in April, and another very short lived one 2 weeks ago. I know of 2 other hounds that show similar signs but also test neg. I hope in the end you do get a clear diagnosis, that is always a good thing. But, if you don't and this happens again, keep in mind what we have gone through. My boy is now 13 1/2 and just keeps trucking along.
  5. I got goosebumps seeing this tonight. I was just thinking of you and your gorgeous Marx today. Many hugs to you Godspeed Marx, you are one loved hound
  6. Catching this early has made a huge difference. Jake isn't limping at all, and although his leg is still swollen and pink it is less so than on Sunday. Thanks everyone for the good thoughts I know they make a difference.
  7. Soap and sugar? How is that applied? I've never heard of that but sometimes those things work the best! My Mom just mixed up some bar soap and sugar together then put it on a large band aid or gauze. Taped it on over night and ewwww they yuck that would be there the next day!!
  8. Glad you have something on hand to draw it out (whatever it is). In a pinch you can use soap and sugar. My Mom used to use that when I was a kid, it felt really weird. Hope Dustin is back to normal very quickly.
  9. Actually he seems to be feeling pretty good. He's eating and moving around pretty well. I think since I caught it really early this time he hasn't started to feel icky. Hopefully starting the antibiotics so quickly will make a big difference.
  10. I just looked down at him and noticed his right rear leg is discoloured and swollen. Gave it a quick check and it looks and feels like the same recurrent thing, dman TBD. So, I started him on doxycyclin and sent our vet an email. He is mobile, at least for now, and doesn't have a fever again for now. Please keep our old boy in your thoughts. He's had a great summer and I'd like to keep him around a while longer.
  11. Aww Greg, this one hurts. I remember going through this with Foxy. Your vet is so right, their body parts just wear out. Bijou has been one of my favourite GT gals for a long time. Give her a smooch for me. Wishing you a lovely remaining days together.
  12. That face is so much like another I love so dearly. Why can't these kids just present something clear cut and simple? Praying that Bullitt continues to improve. I'll be glad when he's home with you. for everyone!
  13. Sending a load more prayers, hugs and smooches. Share them around. Happy Birthday Mike!
  14. You know I'm sick about this. I've asked our Angel girl to keep watch over her brother. Hugs to you guys.
  15. Six months you've been gone - feels like a lifetime and a minute. Miss you every moment Monkey Girl! Peanut
  16. I know it's earlier for you, but wanted you to know I'm thinking of you and the boys. I'll be back to check on how things went later.
  17. I'll be keeping our boys in my prayers that this is just done lickety split and they are home with healthy appetities. Give them huge hugs from their Aunty Janet
  18. There isn't. That was just someones opinion. I would be shocked if the study shows the connection to osteo started with a dog in the last 20 years. It may be passed through one or more of them because if you look at the 12 generation double ansestors of most dogs you will find dogs like Mixed Harmony, Rural Rube, Larry of Waterhall*, Never Roll and Upsidedown, to name a few, in most of your pups. Some of these dogs are so far back in the pedigree that they appear over 100 times in the pedigree. That's how I feel. Plus I think Batmom has it right the gene tells us a bit of the picture, but not necessarily the whole story. It's a start though. My own thoughts are that environment plays as big a factor as bloodlines. It's true in humans (or why do they stop me eating all the good stuff?) so why wouldn't it be the same for animals?
  19. That's where the newest about, to be published, inormation they have comes in They have identified the gene osteo appears in and can test potential dams and sires to see if that hound carries the gene. It's a lot more accurate than looking at a hounds genealogy.

I hated seeing that title.... still. You have such fabulous photographic evidence that shows what an amazing boy he was.
  21. It's most likely a hematoma and will reabsorbe in time. Arnica, or Traumeel gel will help with that. If it isn't bothering him I wouldn't be too concerned. Just monitor it to make sure it is going down. If it's still there in a few days, or it grows, I'd get it looked at.
  22. You all made me Thank you! There is a thread in EEG with information that you'll need.
  23. This is good news, for our hounds and for our children! It will take a lot more research, and money, to go backwards. They are only going to be testing current dogs. This means a breeder could possible have their potential dam or sire tested to know. The good news (or not) is that they can test, so we'll at least know. That means that dogs that test positive could be candidates for gene therapy. There is a lot of questions to be answered and that is going to take more money for studes and research. The Greyhound Program at OSU's donations are down 50% this year. I'm ready to make this year's Miss Nellie Auction the best ever, who's with me?
