  1. I am so sorry, I know how close the two of you were it is terrible to lose one so suddenly, and so young, but at least she did not suffer
  2. I agree that the schedule should be one that suits you, but within that framework, let them do what they want. When I got Conner, I tried to make him go out before bed because he won't use the dog door. His foster mom told me he could hold it forever, so I quit trying to make him go out, and he has never had an accident or asked to go out at night. When I lost my alpha a few years ago, the remaining two dogs took about three months before they seemed to "get over" his loss. It is a hard adjustment for all of you
  3. I think they were lost, at first, without their leader. And grieving. They are gradually adjusting, and you can let them set their own schedule, as long as it works for you. With just two, you may not have a noticeable alpha, two isn't really a "pack". I am sure you will get a lot more detailed info from much more experienced people, but that's my .02
  4. it has been awhile since I had to take a dog off pred, but it seems to me it was only about a week? Glad he is at least eating something!
  5. I am so sorry Your tribute to Misty conveys so well both the joy and the pain in loving and losing a special dog.
  6. I agree that it sounds like Essie, who at 2 1/2 is still mentally very puppy like, was just wanting to play. I wouldn't let her interact with other dogs until you get to know her better and she has adjusted to home life a little more. I am not sure how long you have had her? One exception to that is, if you can find a greyhound only play group, or even know someone with one or a few greys and an area where you can let them all safely play off leash (muzzled, of course) you can better judge Essie's reactions. I would bet they would have a great play time, which can look scary to someone who has never seen greys play As for the cat, did whoever you got Essie from say she had been cat tested and was OK with them? If so, do like Robin said and she will probably do fine. Make sure the cat has somewhere (inside) to escape to. I have a baby gate installed in the doorway of a spare bedroom, about 8" off the floor, the cats can go in there when they want to get away from the dogs, but the dogs can't get in.
  7. I've only seen the bleached tripe here as well, and some of the carnecerias in my neighborhood are not what you would call "high end" if anyone had it they would. It is probably a long haul for you, but I get my frozen green tripe from Suzi's, which is also Butcher Bob's in Surprise. Call ahead though, I don't think they carry the dog stuff in the store, but you can pick it up there. 623-764-5964
  8. Are there any independent pet stores near you? I have Wag N Wash and Noble Beast near me. Also maybe Pet Club has it?
  9. Fletcher hated raw liver, he didn't like things with a slimy texture (I don't either ) I used the freeze dried, I figured it was better than none at all.
  10. I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that either the preliminary diagnosis is wrong, or that it is something they can treat. Bad timing, but you will get through this
  11. The only objection my previous vet had to feeding raw was that it is a little more complicated than handing your dog a chicken leg and she said she didn't trust most of her clients to make the effort to do it right. My current vet prefers raw or home cooked diets. It isn't for everyone because it isn't as easy as pouring kibble out of a bag, but what do they think dogs ate before commercial dog food was available, starting in the 1930's or 1940's, I believe?
  12. What a beautiful boy! And a very lucky one to have found his way to you
  13. Not to hijack but I am curious, WhiteWave and RedHead, and anyone else who mixes kibble in with their raw, what kibble do you use?
  14. I am so sorry you had to say good bye to your sweet little girl
  15. Tripe is an excellent addition if you have access to it. The canned isn't quite as good nutritionally as the raw, and I think it smells worse, but both are good. You can try other meats, but except maybe turkey, they are probably going to be a lot more expensive. I wouldn't bother with veggies unless your dog happens to like them as a treat.
  16. I am so sorry, I was hoping he would have more time with you, and you with him.
