  1. Raw bones are fine for them to eat. It's the cooked bones you want to avoid. They will splinter and could cause damage.
  2. I just had almost the same thing happen to Gigi. I noticed a spot on her back about the size of a quarter, but apparently it had happened the night before and was already healing. I cleaned it and sprayed some liquid bandage on it. It's not getting any bigger so I'm keeping an eye on it. I got the liquid bandage from Petsmart!
  3. Glad for some good news! I hope this means you will have many many more years with your boy!
  4. So glad that he is doing so well! I hope that things continue as smoothly the toy incident is beyond adorable!
  5. Oh Alicia, I'm so sorry hopefully he will have many more months with you.
  6. I've used this for years and have not had any problems. Both of the ingredients they list are common in other flea/heartworm meds. Maybe people should contact them and I bet you'd be surprised to find out where they come from. Any medication that is out there you can find horror stories about. Trifexis is relatively new and of course people are going to shout about the bad when it happens. My Bella cannot have any topical meds because she shakes, vomits, or has vertigo. I think that an owner just needs to know their dog and use what works for them. If any of mine ever exhibited any of those symptoms as in the video I would never use it again.
  7. Thanks, I just saw that when I went to set up an automatic order. It's either or on the discount or free shipping. I think that I'll stick with chewy.com. It's about the same price and free shipping when you spend over $49. They have awesome customer service too. Thanks though!
  8. Thank you for showing us petfooddirect.com! I have been using chewy.com for years and they offer free 2 day shipping on orders over $50, but no discount. I feed Acana and when I looked it up it will save me about $20 with their 15% discount if I switch to them for my orders!
  9. Our new foster that, fell into our laps unexpectedly Tuesday while my husband was out running in our local forestry, has hookworm and whipworm pretty bad. The first thing I did was take him to the vet for his shots and they gave him his first dose I'd drontal plus. They are going to give him his next round in 3 weeks when he goes in for his neuter. Anyway, vet said that our others should be fine since they are on trifexis. She also said to pick up his poos, but here's the problem. He's had pretty much water poos since he's been here. When I've caught him going I have been trying to go and spray the area with bleach, but I know I've missed several times. Obviously there is nothing to pick up.... My problem is do I need to be worried about my whole yard getting infested or since its only getting colder here will my yard be okay? I really worry because we just moved to a new house with almost an entire acre fenced in for them to run. I hate to think of the yard being infested with parasites!
  10. I'm so sorry neither one of them is feeling well. I give my older lab mix, who has joint pain/arthritis pretty bad, Nupro Joint and Immunity Support. It's a powder and you mix it with their dry food and some hot water. He loves it and it has been a miracle supplement for him. It might be similar to the Actiflex I've never heard of that before so I'll have to check that out. I wish there was some miracle cure for Fuzzy , but if he does have IBD then there are ways to manage that. Hopefully you can find a mixture that works for him soon!
  11. Congrats! He's a handsome boy
  12. More good thoughts for Spriet! She is also one of my favorites!
  13. Gigi always wears her tag collar in the house. She seems to LOVE hers as well! If I've taken it off for any reason (after a bath and on the weekend mornings when I let her jump in bed with us-it jingles ) She will follow me around until I put it back on her. She will go to wherever it is laying and just stand there until I get it and put it on. All I have to do is hold it out and she puts her head right through it. She HAS to be wearing it. She is also one that loves her hats and sweaters as well. Not sure how that relates to racing because she never raced!
  14. Another vote for the Acana, Orijen was too rich for mine so I went with the Acana. They love it and do great with it! I switch back and forth between the Ranchlands and Pacifica.
  15. Not fair she had to leave you so soon. It's no fair
  16. Are you sure you want to get into this discussion? Seriously you are going to get tons of different answers, but you should go with whatever works for your dog. I feed Acana and rotate between the Pacifica and Ranchlands. It's more expensive, but the results that I've seen cannot change my mind. I initially started feeding the Pacifica to my boy because he has IBS and it is the only food I can find that doesn't upset his tummy. It also has improved all my gangs coats and energy level. I used to feed Iams until it made him sick, then Eukanuba until it made him sick, then Diamond Naturals until it did the same. Their coats and poos have never been as good as they are now with Acana. IMHO, it is a better quality food and no one can convince me that the cheap bags of food are as good a quality. But, I know dogs that have awesome coats and are healthy on the cheap food. You should use whatever works for you.
  17. How long have you had her? My girl's metabolism was crazy when we first brought her home and she was only 60lbs. She would eat 3 1/2 cups of the Acana Pacifica a day and never gained a pound- the bag says to feed her size about 2 cups per day. We've had her a year now and it's slowing down to where she is eating the recommended serving for her size and maintaining her weight. With you girl I would try feeding her more of her food without adding any extras in until her stool is normal. But that's just my opinion.
  18. I'm sure others will have more to say, but when I hear the click, click, click it means it's time to trim nails! Now when I first got Gigi though it was a slow process of trimming her nail once a week to finally get them short enough, where they should be because hers were so grown out.
  19. I feed twice a day as well. I try and feed mine 2 hours before I leave for work so that allows time for them to go to the bathroom before I leave. They eat at 6am and 5pm. I also give mine a couple milkbones before bed to help with the upset tummy if it gets too empty. I also agree that you will find what works best for you! Good luck
  20. Tell me about I have to feed Acana regionals due to some food allergies in one of my dogs and they recently raised their prices..... I tell him he's lucky I love him so much!
  21. I second chewy.com. They have great prices and wonderful customer service. I have 2 large bags delivered every 4 weeks and they always come on time. Also if the large bag is unavailable for whatever reason they modify the order themselves and send you smaller bags to make up the correct weight. One time my order was lost for some reason and had not been delivered after 1 1/2 weeks (they have free 2 day delivery if you spend more the $50). Anyway, I emailed them and they overnighted my order to me immediately. When the original order ended up getting to my house after another week they told me to go ahead and keep it and apologized for the trouble!
  22. Gigi gives herself plenty of exercise! We are lucky to have a large fenced in backyard and she puts herself through her "lap" zoomies every time she goes out! I try to walk all my dogs once a day, but sometime life gets in the way and we are too busy. They don't seem to mind though.
  23. I had to move up an age group this time too.......
  24. I found this on a website when I started researching it. Like is says you want to build up the amount gradually or you could give them the big D! How and How Much to Supplement? Dogs usually like the taste of coconut oil, so it can be added to their food at any meal. Some dog parents just let their dogs lick the oil off from a spoon. How much coconut oil to give to a dog depends on the size and health condition of the dog, As a general guideline, give about 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight per day. However, remember not to start with the suggested amount. You need to add coconut oil to your dog's diet a little at a time in divided doses. Because coconut oil kills harmful bacteria, viruses, and fungi, the burden of removing dead organisms can trigger symptoms of detoxification. Too much coconut oil at a time may also cause diarrhea and greasy stools in dogs. As a start, try giving 1/4 teaspoon/day for small dogs or puppies and 1 teaspoon for large dogs, and gradually increase the amount every few days. Reduce the amount if your dog has diarrhea. - See more at: http://www.natural-dog-health-remedies.com/coconut-oil-benefits.html#sthash.ylB9vwWf.dpuf
