  1. What a gorgeous dark brindle! And he's just a baby!
  2. Oh, look at Carol's beautiful big eyes!
  3. What a handsome boy you have!
  4. It must feel so bittersweet to know that your hounds are all home without Ramm. I'm glad Albi seems to be taking control of his situation.

I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  6. A peaceful passing in his sleep -- best for him, but such a horrible shock for you. Run free, sweet boy.
  7. It is an honor to have one of those bossy redheads come in and take charge of your life and your heart. Thank you for being the perfect match for her.
  8. I am so, so sorry. What a beautiful dog he was, in all ways.
  9. Adding our good thoughts to Turbo's collection.
  10. Sending all sorts of white light and gentle, healing thoughts for your boy.
  11. Scout came to me at age 9 with 2nd from outside toe missing on a rear foot. I don't know why or when it was amputated. He was an active dog for 9. The other toes on that foot gave him some minor problems (tended to swell every now and then) but nothing remotely major for his remaining 4 years.
  12. Not a vet, nor do I play one on TV, but I agree with you that combo of the change of food plus a cooked rib bone might be enough to cause all this digestive havoc. But don't beat yourself up about it. With diarrhea, I follow the school of having them not eat for 24 hours to let their system rest. While trying to get them to drink as much as possible. Then very gently start with small amounts of of non-fatty solid food. Some of my dogs have been able to change food brands with no problems; others have had to be slowly switched over a week to prevent stomach upset. Hope your boy feels better soon.
  13. You can buy a capsule filling "machine" (actually, there's nothing mechanical about it) very cheaply in different capsule sizes. Example: capsule filler It's really something like a two-part candle mold. You put the big half of empty capsules in the first part of the holder, and then place it on a sheet of paper or plastic. Pour the powder in till it fills the upturned capsule portions. Put the smaller part of the empty capsules in the 2nd part of the holder and turn it over to fit on the filled capsule parts. Press firmly, and when you pull the top part off -- voila' -- neatly filled capsules. Pour the excess powder from the paper/plastic back into your powder supply, and you're ready to start again. It's an almost mindless procedure -- you can easily make a couple of hundred filled capsules while watching a 30-minute television program.
  14. The vet that Scout's first family took him to treated it for years as a fungal infection but it never got better. The vet used by the adoption kennel where he stayed after being bounced said it was a fungal infection, too. But it only improved on the SLO medication/supplement regime.
  15. Yes, my Scout was diagnosed with SLO -- symmetrical lupoid onchodystrophy. It's thought to be an autoimmune disease that attacks the nails. We followed a drug/supplement regimen that gradually improved the situation, although he always had cruddy, crumbly nails. He hated me touching his feet, too. I think when they have an active inflammation, it's painful. But you're right, I think it's important to keep the nails clipped. Here's a short article by vet Suzanne Stack about it: Stack article on SLO There's several people on GT whose dogs have had SLO. I'm sure some of them will add their experiences.
  16. I'm so sorry. Thank you for that loving tribute to him.
  17. I'm so sorry. In time, I hope the painful memories of his passing will be replaced with the many good ones of his life with you. Pooping at the critical "would you" tender human moment -- classic.
  18. Went to a Robin and Linda Williams concert this weekend. Linda Williams said she wrote "Lonesome" after a beloved dog died. Here they are singing it at an earlier concert.
  19. Of my 5 greys, I've had one who loved kids, one who was slightly afraid of them but behaved ok, and 3 who pretty much ignored them. Welcome in advance to being an aunt! It's wonderful! When my niece was a baby, greyhound Eve adored it when I babysat. But Eve gave me the evil eye if I let the baby cry. She wasn't bothered by the noise, she was bothered by me not attending to that baby. I've seen other GT posters say they have had difficulty handling a baby buggy and dogs on walks, but I never had problems. The dogs walked single file on my left. At first I muzzled them on walks because they were right at eye level with the baby in the buggy and You Never Know, but it soon became clear they were fine.
  20. Way to go, Dude! And best wishes for all the other pups, including Shelby.
  21. Oh, no!!!! What a sickening diagnosis. And three days at the vet's Sending
