  1. Good job AnnIE! My mom has one of these screens across her balcony door. A bird got through it the other day and started nesting in the fake tree in her living room.
  2. Does "closed" sound the same as "No" to him? Maybe somehow teaching him to stop in his tracks when he hears NO or CLOSED or some other keyword such as STOP, I'm thinking that you need a command like that and be sure that he understands it using regular drills to reinforce it. I love that he is being a dog, but you're right that he needs to be kept safe. Good luck!
  3. One time when Rocket was at the vet, a little boy walked up and asked "Can I pet your tiger?" This picture reminded me of that day. His coloring was bright like that at the time.
  4. She is adorable! LaVida says roaching life is the best life. Glad all is good. That sleepy juice will give you the runs, so it should all be better soon, Punkin.
  5. The Virbac chews always worked well for us. Some of the dogs who arrive here had teeth that were just too far gone to avoid dentals / extractions. Rocket had great teeth but still needed to have a couple of full anesthesia cleanings over the years. He had one at age 11 without any issues. Good luck!
  6. Many of us never met you, Sweep, but you were just like one of our own. We miss you too.
  7. That look and the flinging of toys starts 1 hours and 15 minutes before mealtime. Every day, like clockwork. At the opposite end ofthe spectrum there's Mark who will eat 2,3, or 4 hours later than usual. He seems to be a brunch and midnight buffet kind of guy.
  8. Paws crossed. We're at a point where I have a sample checked every 6 months unless I see signs or we have unexplained tummy issues. One of these 2 (coughMarkcough) likes to go out and snack on Arizona Poop Jerky if we miss anything in the back yard, so we are pretty diligent with the picking up. Somehow, he still manages to occasionally find one. I swear he has a stash.
  9. Great article. It brings up some memories that I hope to never re-live with another hound. Poor Petunia and Kate were so loaded with hooks that I was worried about them bleeding out when we finally got the right combination of meds into them. They were both broodies and came directly from one of the farms.
  10. Maybe you could look on the internet and see if anyone there knows where the he** my dinner is.
  11. Somehow, our house looks like the vendor hall at a greyhound event.
  12. What Jerilyn said. She is still learning the routine and figuring out what she does and doesn't like. The dog you have now will be settled in and entirely different a year from now. By then, she will also have fogured out how to work the system for anything she wants.
  13. Mark and LaVida stayed at home with me. They aren't really into traveling or the car. You may have seen Snickers in the pics as she was there all weekend. We took Rocket to the Kanab gathering once, and after a day he was ready to come home. Rocket was extremely social but I think the Kanab event was overwhelming for him. After that trip, he and I stayed home while Chris went to the event with Trolley's Mom and Snickers' Mom.
  14. Chris brought some new stuffies back from the gathering in Kanab. Mark loves this stuffed heart shaped stuffie. It makes a better pillow than stuffie.
  15. Happy Gotcha Day Logan! You don't look a day over 5!
  16. AnnIE: I heard there would be french fries.... Great job AnnIE! Punkin, we are so glad you are doing well. LaVida wants to know how much the Tooth Fairy brought you.
  17. Many of our previous dogs struggled with heat in the 70's and above. Some of that depended on whether or not they were in direct sun. Here in the desert we try to stick to shaded areas when walking, and at this time of year the only good time to walk is before or right at sunrise. As soon as the sun pops over the horizon it is just about too hot here to walk for the rest of the day. Rocket always wanted his walk regardless of weather, so we would load him in the van and drive to a tree lined street so that we could walk in continuous shade. He got 2 rides and a walk that way and he was happy. When we've had dogs that overheated, we usually use cold wet towels and washcloths on their necks, belly and paws while aiming a fan at them on high. You do have to constantly change the towels or washcloths out as they do no good one they warm up against the skin. We keep a small fan ready to go and sit it right on the floor in front of them when this happens. At this time of year, we really don't do many walks here as the dogs start panting as soon as we are in the sun. Mark, who is a black dog, will go and lay on the back yard in the hot sun at least twice a day. We do limit his time and make him come inside, but he has little interest in going for a walk in this weather, but likes to go out and warm up a little since our AC won't shut off again until November. Good luck!
  18. Thanks for making sure she gets to a good home. That little peanut is adorable.
  19. I love these two! You are so lucky to have found them together.
  20. Happy Birthday Willa and Doolin! Mark and LaVida want you to know that you are supposed to have French Fries AND Ice Cream on your birthday.
  21. I guess not. Lavida slept like that for almost 2 hours. I don't know how that's comfortable but apparently it is. Some new stuffies came home from Kanab. Watch for our new friends in the background of future pics. As you can see she has perfectly adjusted Conner and Val's orthopedic Slumber Ball for roaching. I don't dare straighten it out.
  22. LaVida took a little after dinner nap. She's been like this for an hour now.
