  1. As everyone said, I think there are just situation where you can't do more. We had one reactive dog coming at us recently barking loudly/aggressively and running towards us (no leash) I put myself behind my dog and started yelling at the other dog. My problem is different as Rocket is very scared and wanted to start running away, but I think that would just have made the dog chase us more so I had to try to hold him and protect him. It turned out ok as the dog was scared of me, but it could have turned the other way where he managed to attack us as well. As long as you do your best to try to protect your dog, if other owners can't control theirs I think you can't do much about that.
  2. The ricotta works for us as well. But liver pâté is what gets him crazy for the pills But I have to say the last pill (Metacam) we had, they said it was honey taste and my dog just ate them as if it was his kibble!
  3. Superglue sounds painful! Thanks for the advices, I will start doing the baths! Worst thing is Rocket hates water! He will jump over a small puddle of water during his walks! But peanut butter is always a good motivator! I will start the routine and hope it will not come back !
  4. Thanks! I can't find MediPaw in my country at the moment, I'll try to find something equivalent. May be a stupid question, but what is the ratio you use for the epsom salt bath ? And is it 10min the best timing? Thank you all for the advices, we will keep monitoring and hope nothing will come back
  5. Hi All, I would like to ask for some advice on how to best take care of our dog's paws. Rocket has been with us for 8 months now. He stopped racing in June 2021, and we have no knowledge of any type of injury (however he did win his last race and we have no explanation on why he was retired early). 2 months ago during a hike he got a cut in between his pad and toes that needed stiches. We noticed it coming back home after the walk and are not sure how he got it (he does a scream of death when he gets stuck on the couch but showed no sign of pain during the hike or when we were home in that case!). It healed well we had follow up at our local vet after the holidays and they were happy with the healing as well. Now 2 months later, same leg, Rocket did not want to put his leg on the ground suddenly one morning. I looked and saw he was red in between his toes and he did not want me to have a proper look! He even slightly growled to tell me to back off. We went to a local vet (not our usual one as they were fully booked during the holiday with no availability even for emergency consultation!). Anyway, the other vet gave us a week of antibiotic with Metacam for the pain, and said it was an abscess but she was not sure of the cause (she mentioned he could have started a habit of licking the paw following his injury). Again we went for a follow up, the abscess dried out and she was happy with the healing progress. She said it may just have been unlucky and we have nothing to change in our habits. We still continue to put a protection at night to ensure he doesn't keep licking this particular feet. We do live in a city but we have a lot of parks and a nice walk on a gravel path near a river we generally walk him on. In winter I used to clean his feet after each walk due to the salt but I have to say I stopped doing this in the summer. I just want to know if we may have been just unlucky or if you recommend any care that you do to avoid feet injuries? What worries me a bit is that we are not very sure why he had the infection. We appreciate any advice!
  6. Just wanted to say how sorry I am. Got my boy only 7 months ago and he is almost 5, wouldn't imagine going through that now... No words just sending hugs!
  7. Great! Thank you all for the advices! I will start using wipes on these areas
  8. Hi All, We have had Rocket for 6 months now, he has a black fur with white spots. He has started getting brownish around his mouth and in his crouch area. Nothing worrying otherwise, he eats normally and behaves as usual. We just came back from holiday in the Mediterranean area and gave him all preventive treatment recommended by our vet. He had been bitten by mosquitoes and by a bee (requiring a cortisol injection at the emergency vet). But all seemed resolved. Just wondering if it's common to change the coat color? Anything I may need to look for? Thanks for the advice.
  9. Thanks! I am struggling to add a picture due to the 60kB limit It just happened we needed to renew his vaccines 2 weeks ago and so we went to the vet and did a health check as well and she checked his weight and his heart, and she said he was perfectly fit and very muscular. The vet was recommended by a greyhound breeder nearby and a neighbor who also has an adopted Irish greyhound. We are lucky to have flexible working so he actually gets a few outing a day he usually walks between 1h to 1h30 min in weekdays and 2h on weekends (if not too rainy, but even if raining we try to go out 1h per day as we also like walking). He does not run much as here the dog parks are very small and full of small dogs. He does run with the other greyhound we know sometimes but it's not frequent as we struggle to find places for them to be alone. The other greyhound we know has also been beaten a few months ago in a dog park by another dog (and was quite in a bad shape) so we try to limit their time in the parks to when they are alone. I will continue grooming him and hopefully he will loose a bit this coat! Thanks! We will try to go early morning or late we are lucky it's also safe in our area!
  10. My boy is also named Rocket And he really always want to go out. Even when we see he starts feeling the heat he wants to continue! He has a puppy mindset still at 4 years old I am in Sweden so really did not think heat was going to be a problem! We will keep him in the shade as much as possible! Thanks! Thanks I will look into that! I will see if I can get one delivered here or at our holiday place at least! Thanks for the rhabdomyolisis link I did not know about that!
  11. Hi All, I read a few old post but thought it would be good to have a new post. I have my black dog for 6 months now, he has spent the whole winter with us but we are getting into hotter temperature. He still has a lot of kennel coat around the neck area. Recently the temperatures got around 22 degrees Celsius (72 F) and he seemed to be struggling with the heat already. We have shortened his walks but he still pants a lot when we get home. This is still not very hot and especially this summer we will be in hotter area and this should be the temperature morning and evening. Is it normal he struggles already? He is from Ireland he should have had hotter temperature than that. Is the kennel coat the issue? Any advice on trying to get rid of it before the hottest days? Except shortening his walks, avoiding the sun, taking him out when it's cooler, any recommendation? I have taken a cold water bottle the other day and helped him a bit with a wet towel when we got home, any area is more efficient to cool him down ? Thanks all!
  12. They are such drama queen/king I suppose we will have to get used to it as it's really scary to hear at first! I think I never run out of bed so fast!
  13. It's very hard especially waking up in the middle of the night! To be fair to her, I am sure it was a disgusting sensation
  14. Our little Rocket who has decided to start sleeping on the couch for a few nights instead of his bed, made his first scream of death since we had him! He did stuck his leg in between the 2 couch covers and couldn't get out of it (he is already liberated in the picture) and this while sleeping. Let's just say that in the middle of the night while you are sleeping there is nothing more terrifying that this
