  1. Got an update late this afternoon as well. Ami is doing greyt in her foster home, with no signs of any issues. She seems to be enjoying the company of the resident hounds - here she is (ami is the fawn) getting well deserved treats from her foster dad. The picture is posted with the group's permission. Deb
  2. This group has a good reputation and is committed not just to Ami but providing what is needed for all the greyhounds in their care. They will do right by her - I am convinced of that after our long phone conversation this morning. I love the GT community - no where else on earth or the internet would so many people step forward so quickly to help a dog in need. Thank you for alerting me, so I could follow up and ensure that she was okay. Ami's story reminds me of another thread a few years back that also created a furor - and it was MY group that was "responsible" and about to put down a dog that had been returned with a multitude of issues and a history of bites. It was the poster being just a TAD overdramatic, the reality was that the dog was never in danger of being put down (although I would have liked a shot at the poster's stupid boyfriend). That dog, Sadie, came to me as a foster, we adopted her and she was a happy content member of our pack until osteo stole her from us. My point, there really are two sides to a story and i hope that should any poster ever put my group in a bad light, that I will be given the chance to respond and tell the other side before anyone jumps to conclusions.
  3. Just in case this was missed there is an UPDATE at the bottom of page 7 Ami is in no danger of being euthanized. She is being cared for in a foster home and is happily settling in.
  4. ******UPDATE****** I just got off the phone with the adoption group. Ami is safe and is in no danger of being euthanized. The group did get her back last night. Ami has showed no signs of any of the behavior reported, and was happily wagging her tail in the background while I was on the phone. The foster mom is a certified pawsitive dog trainer and has not seen anything of concern yet. The group is totally committed to the dogs in their care and if needed, Ami would get any necessary diagnostics and treatment before euthanization was ever considered. I did let them know that GT'ers were willing to contribute if needed. As is so often the case, there really are two sides to this story. I hope everyone feels more at ease knowing Ami is okay. I will keep in touch with them. Deb
  5. A number of Canadian GT'ers are working on connecting with the adoption group to see if we can help.
  6. I emailed as well. What a tough situation for both the family and the hound. If anyone else should get a response and find out what group placed this grey can you pm me and let me know. Thanks.
  7. Godspeed EZ What a wonderful long time EZ had with you Robin, with so many memories to treasure. In the spring, we will find just the right spot, and EZ will join so many others in our Memory garden.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss. How lucky Lucas was to have found his place with you. Although never long enough, may the time you had together carry you through the grief of his leaving. Run free Lucas, free of pain forever.
  9. Shirley, I am so sorry that Miles had to leave. I can say with certainty though that the time he was with you was the happiest time of his life. Thanks to you - through Miles, we have both Cloud and Bo in our lives, I will give them extra hugs tonight. In the spring, if you don't mind, I will find something special to add to our memory garden in honor of Miles. Run free, handsome boy - you will be so missed.
  10. I am so sorry for your loss. Godspeed sweet Star
  11. Lori, my heart is with you as you celebrate his life and grieve this loss. Know that next spring, we will find a special place, close to Bill in the Memory Garden and a special something to always remember him by. Godspeed Monty,
  12. Hannah the Beautiful July 6, 2000 – October 14, 2013 Her racing name was Hurry Hannah but to us she was, and always will be Hannah the Beautiful. After her racing career ended, Hannah had a second career as a momma – raising six litters of pups. Finally at nine years of age she was able to retire and made her way to Canada. The moment I saw her picture I wanted to adopt her, but she had been promised to another home. When circumstances changed and she was returned the foster family adopted her before I even knew she was available. Then last August, I got the call – her second home could no longer keep her, could I foster her? It took me less than a second to respond with a resounding NO. I would NOT foster her, I was adopting her. And so on August 6, one month after her 12th birthday, Hannah finally came home. From the moment she arrived, I knew she was worth the wait. Thin and stressed by the last few months in her previous home, Hannah blossomed in ours. Soon, she had gained the weight she needed, and the accidents that led to her being returned were non-existent at our house. Hannah was a gentle spirit and wanted nothing more than to be loved, and petted and petted and petted. When we would stop, up came the paw to gently scratch us as reminder that our work was not done. Not one to give up easily, if we ignored her request for more pets, she would go to one of the other greys and paw them. No matter how many times we told her that they would not pet her, she never gave up trying. Hannah loved people, the more the merrier, and was thrilled to be part of the many events we took her to. Her gentle and sweet manner won over everyone she met. But it was when she was out in the yard that Hannah had her happiest moments. Winter, spring, summer or fall - to run freely, or just stopping to investigate the smells, she made the most of every minute. While browsing Greyhound Data, I was surprised to see that I had actually placed one of her pups. Last September at the annual picnic, mother and daughter were reunited, and raced in the radar run together. Her daughter Cleo came to stay with us while her family was on vacation. Having them together was such a beautiful experience and gave me a glimpse of what our beautiful girl was like in her younger years. Hannah gave us a scare a couple of weeks ago, but seemed to be rebounding. Then this morning she collapsed. It was time to say goodbye. Hannah – find all our angels that will be waiting for you. I will miss stroking your beautiful spotted ears, snuggling with you on your bed and watching you go down the stairs so carefully. Know that forever and always you will be in my heart. I love you Hannah the Beautiful. Your forever mom.
  13. Happy Birthday Angel - hope they are having an extra special party for you at the bridge.
  14. I am so sorry for your loss. Run free handsome boy.
  15. Judy, I am so sorry that it was time for Bebe to leave. How lucky she was to have found her forever home with you, a home where she could gain confidence and become the girl she was meant to be. Bebe, find Jilly Bean and all the other angels. Godspeed beautiful girl.
  16. Run free Silver. I am so sorry for your loss
  17. I am so sorry for your loss. Casey was lucky to have found her home with you, a home where she was allowed to be just who she was. Godspeed, sweet Casey.
  18. I am so sorry for your loss. Run free Manero
  19. Donna, I am so sorry. His passing will leave a whole in many hearts. I will have to find something very special for the garden to memoralize JoeT - not sure what yet but it will be something as special as Joe. I am so thankful that I got to meet JoeT, and had some special hugs at the picnic this year. JoeT leaves such a legacy through all the hounds he has helped get into homes through his work as an ace reporter and as an ambassadog at the numerous events he attended. Godspeed JoeT - you were so well-loved.
  20. I am so sorry. How lucky that Graham found his way to you where he was allowed to be the boy he could be. What a loving tribute you wrote for your special boy.
  21. Where are you in Canada again? Are you getting help from your group in settling your new girl in? I was almost where you are now in the early days of having greys. What I needed to learn was to take charge, so that my hound knew that he didn't have to take care of anything (and they are ill prepared to play the leader). I needed to get over my fear, which was being transferred through the leash to my dog.
  22. Is this a dislocation fracture? I am not really good at reading x-rays but am asking as my Maxi had a extreme dislocation fracture of a metatarsal. Options were to do a surgical pinning (approx 6000) and no future mobility or set it, bandage, keep her fairly immoble for 3 months to allow healing. We chose the second and then had a ortho brace custom made for her that allowed her to have full mobility of the leg while protecting it from dislocating again.
