Oh, Deb, I am so sorry for your loss. She certainly was a joyful girl, it's obvious in the pictures. Run free, little one.
-
Marc, what an honor for you to have had her 9.5 years. I'm sure she's watching you now and smiling. Many of us aren't that lucky. hugs from sue and bancroft

Deb and John, know that you are not alone, there are dozens and dozens of us out here, tears flowing, feeling the pain that you are experiencing, Another special spot in the memory garden.

Oh, Sherrie and Jim, the tears are flowing here along with yours. There are no new words to offer, just know how many of us are with you in spirit. We know the depth of grief, the pain, the disbelief....that painful lump in the throat and chest. May you soon be smiling through your tears as you remember the funny and heartwarming times. hugs to you both. Bancroft and miss sue

I've always crated my dogs when I leave. No problems. Please consider muzzling. If you have ever seen the results of a dog fight, you would not hesitate, though muzzles don't always prevent all injuries. I would at the very least muzzle both. With their thin skin, the least little thing can cause a horrible tear. One of the greys I cared for needed over 300 sutures when she and her daughter fought. Good luck and keep us posted. Something is going on between them. If only we could understand their language.

When I brought my angel Bessie home she immediately imitated the little dachshunds by lifting her leg. She continued that until the day that she died and I loved her all the more for her little quirk.

Steve and Lisa, I am so very sorry for your loss. He was a gorgeous boy and always well behaved when he visited. My heart is heavy for you. May you soon find peace and smiles as the memories of the years come back. sue :f_pink

Marc, I always said that Honey's "mature" pictures remind me of Bessie, and I love her contemplative expressions. Your celebration of her life says it all. She was special. She opened your life to the world of greyhounds. She was loved. She will never be forgotten. She will forever hold that one spot in your heart that cannot be touched by any other being. You know that I am by your side, feeling your pain, sharing your grief.

Oh Chris and family, my deepest condolences to your family, including the dogs. All suffer the loss of a sweet family member. All grieve. May you find peace and comfort knowing that she found the best home with you and you provided her with the best, even when you faced the hardest, most painful, but love guided task of letting her go. Hugs and prayers to all, sue :f_pink

Oh, Tricia and Burke, my heart grieves with yours. She was the only dog I recognized at Grapehounds, out of that huge sea of hounds. I got so excited when I saw her and wondered if I was correct. What a beautiful memory filled tribute for a beautiful girl. May smiles soon overcome the tears as more fond memories come to mind. sue :f_pink

Just Dusted The Dogs With Diatomaceous Earth
dex95lucy replied to Jeff's topic in Health and Medical discussion
Didn't see this til now or would have posted sooner. We successfully used it at the greyhound kennel, both added to food as a wormer and topically for fleas and ticks. We used an empty clean carpet fresh bottle with the holes in the top. That kept the dust to a minimum. I repeated the dusting after wet weather, but they were kenneled dogs who often were silly enough to stay out in the rain. I dusted their inside kennel areas when we had an outbreak of ticks who seemed to be nesting in the wood. I also sprinkled it around window sills here at home where bugs came in. I did an experiment putting a tick in a jar with some DE on the bottom. Took about two hours to kill him. Did not use it on the collies, too much hair. -
My mini dachshund has had two treatments in his lifetime. He tended to pull muscles with jumping/wrong movements, just like me. I took him when he would be holding his head to the side, crying, etc. Both helped tremendously. I know the last treatment left him hurting as on the way home he would not look at me, would not get out of the car, totally rebuffed me. I assured him that he would feel better in a few hours. Then I left the house. Upon return a few hours later he met me at the door, bouncing around, totally different behavior than before the treatments. A happy dog again. The doctor is a people chiropractor who does the dog treatments at a local vet office. the dog lays on a blanket on the floor and he gets down and does his thing. He took the canine chiropractic courses as he also has a dachshund who gets herself in trouble. Dachsies are well known for having spinal difficulties. Good experience and I would not hesitate to take any of my dogs to him. Keep us posted.

Consider it done from PA. You must be devastated with worry. :hope :hope sue -
Kerry, give it NOW. Don't wait. It will not hurt him to have it "off schedule". At least get it started. Will be praying for the best outcome, we don't want our Merlin going through that again. sue just checked my med book and humans take it before meals and at bedtime

Cindy, I work with Alzheimers patients and I also told the vet that Dexter had sundowners. Definitely worse in the evening. Fussy, barking, restless, wandering, confused, nothing settled him. Forgot how to pee when outside. It got to the point that I would tell his son, my other dachsie, to take daddy out to pee. Honest to goodness, Howie would walk slowly (unusual for him) and wait for Dexter to follow him. Howie would pee, Dexter would sniff and pee. All was well, Howie would come in with Dexter following. Funny, but very sad to see my little heart dog like this. But as I said above, the ProNeurozone is doing wonders for him. The bottle contains 60 tablets for small dogs and he gets one a day, $30 or $35 a bottle, well worth it to help my little guy. I know at 16 he may not have much time left and anything can happen suddenly, but at least at this point his quality of life is much better. sue

My heart goes out to you. My 16 year old dachshund has similar symptoms. Vet started him on a supplement which contains the B vitamins- ProNeurozone. He is doing so much better. Kept getting lost outside, confused inside, peeing in the house, went out to pee and forgot what he was out there for, barking for no reason, sudden attacking other dogs. Vet said that some of the other meds can cause some liver problems so she prefers to start with the supplement. Dexter is not perfect but he is so much better. Took about three weeks before I saw improvement, but from then on it was like night to day. He now enjoys being outside, though I must watch him when it is dark as that is still hard for him to find his way around. In his case his eyesight and hearing are poor so they contribute to the problem. Otherwise he is doing terrific. Keep us posted and I hope you can find some help for your baby. sue

Kerry, I keep checking back for updates. Know that so many of us across the country are praying that this will be resolved easily and fast. How scary for all of you, though. :hope Bancroft and sue
