I have had greyhounds for 12 years and none of them have ever had a tick . . . until yesterday. I was petting Franny and felt something on her neck. I looked quick and thought, poor old lady, you have a skin tag on your neck. Looked closer, nope, skin tags don't have legs. Now I'm grossed out. It's a tick, and a very engorged tick. I got the tweezers and started to pull. That thing did not want to come out. I finally got it out, but now I'm not sure I got the whole thing. I looked at her neck just now and there is a little brown spot, but I can't tell if it's a scab or part of the tick. I don't have experience with ticks, so what should I do?

Hi Marsroving, I grew up in Milwaukee and still go there for many things. Anyway, I had two boys for the longest time and never had any issues. Both were very laid back and low key.

Her's was 2.something. I can't remember now. The vet isn't too worried, but I have to take her back in a month for a recheck. Thank you for the link, I was going to ask about that.

Franny had her dental today and we found out from the pre-anesthesia blood work that she has slightly elevated kidney levels. I don't have her home yet so I haven't been able to talk to the doctor in depth about it, but its worries me. She just turned 10 in February and has been very healthy. I hope this is a minor thing.

I just noticed recently that when Franny is standing, her back right leg will start to shake. I first noticed it a few weeks ago when she was getting some pets from my friend, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. Then it happened again at the vets, but I thought it was because she was nervous. Now I've noticed it seems to be happening more often. She just turned 10, so I don't know if it's an old dog thing, or if it's something I need to be more concerned about. It does make me a little nervous since I lost both my boys to osteo. The topic is supposed to be shakey leg, but I can't edit it.

Franny could use a bath, but our temporary housing is not very conducive to bathing a dog. And it's way too cold right now to do anything outside. So any ideas of how I can the stinky smell out without a giving her a bath?

This was not what I wanted to read first thing this morning . I cannot put into words what I would like to say to this adoption group. Being euthanized should be the absolutely last option after every thing else has been ruled out, but all of us except for this group knows that already.

I agree with everyone on here that this "trainer" completely failed both of them. I too was made to feel guilty when we returned our first dog which is why I ended up going to a different adoption group and got my bounce, who I mentioned earlier turned out to be my heart dog. I just really really hope that she doesn't give up on greyhounds all together because of this situation. She needs to work with another group and hopefully consider taking a bounce instead. All three of mine have been bounces and they have all been wonderful.

Ok, take this for what it's worth and I'll make it short. Twelve years ago we adopted our first greyhound. He was difficult and not a good fit for our family so we returned him, and I was devastated. I thought I failed him. After the return to the group I called the adoption office at Dairyland and talked with the adoption rep there for a really long time. Basically she said, I think you need a bounce and we have two here, so why don't you come and meet them...so we did. That day we brought home Rusty. He was my baby, my heart dog. We had him for almost 8 years. I miss him like crazy everyday. So the moral of my story is, the right dog is out there for you. Don't give up on dogs or the breed because the first one didn't work out.

My bridge baby Solo used to do it all the time when he was just sitting around relaxing in his chair.
