  1. I wouldn't use a "spot on" on a sighthound period. I am a chemist. Therefor I am very sensitive about chemicals and IMO I think it is too much poison to be putting in your dogs blood stream. A friend of mine nearly killed her sighthound by mistakenly putting BioSpot on it. When will people learn that you have to be particular about the POISONS you are exposing your dogs too? I like Adams too-the water based kind- and it works just fine.
  2. I too suddenly lost my heart greyhound at only 6 yrs old. It was devastating to the max. My prayers are with you. Try to be open minded as soon as you can and maybe she'll send you a sign. In my case, although he sent me a sign within 48 hours of his crossing over, it was still a year or more before I began to heal. I just grieved so deeply. It took me that long for the emotions to calm so I could fully realize that he didn't die-only his body did. That my Slim, the real Slim- the spirit, was still with me and we could move forward together like we always had. That he would never leave me. It is true. Hope this helps. My deepest sympathy.
  3. Prayers going up from KY! PS- Give Canyon a hug/kiss from his KY friends!
  4. You feel him because he is with you still-and always will be. “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.”-Helen Keller Thankfully we don't have to understand everything. The heart truly does undrstand what the mind is not capable of. “For love is as strong as death…. Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it.” Song of Solomon 8:6-7 This has just been my experience based on what my soumate Slim taught me after he crossed over. Hope it helps.
  5. You now what? I'll bet a Therapaw might keep her from tearing it when she runs. They work great at dissipating the forces the foot experiences when it touches down. They've worked very well for me. Also would suggust some Tuf-Foot www.tuffoot.com That is great for toughening up their paws. Easy to spray on before they go to bed if you put it in a little sprayer so they don't track it anywhere. You can get it a couple of places also- e.g. KV Vet is very cheap for it.
  6. He knows. He is with you still (and always will be).
  7. Her marvelous photo book is so full of LOVE! And you gotta love those earsies! She is with you still. You didn't fall in love with her body-which is the only thing that died. You fell in love with the real her- her spirit which is still and always will be with you. Don't feel bad about any decision you made. The truth is we actually have no control over when they cross over. There is nothing you could have done or shouldn't have done that would have changed it. She knows this already and wishes you could find peace by realizing it too. You did everything you could and should-you love her without measure. It don't get any better than that for any of us.
  8. Ditto what Batmom said. In my early days of greyhound ownership I had Goldie on it for years because the vet said he needed it based on some simple little test. Later when I switched to a board certified vet I was told that he didn't and was given a protocol to wean him off of it! I did. He was a healthy dog for several years after that. He didn't need it in the first place! And when I think that for years I was giving him a drug that he didn't need because I stupidly and unquestionly believed a vet! Of course the vet didn't care that it was a threat to Goldies health taking medicine he didn't need because he sold years worth of pills that were not needed. Just another reason I don't believe vets anymore until I research it myself. I learned.
  9. I know why it is called the stopper pad too...Goldie used to come in from running with grass and dirt caught in it from using it to deaccelerate!
  10. Interceptor and never a problem! Get him on Interceptor once a month and you probably won't have to worry about it again. I know some of my dogs could not have helped but be exposed to the eggs at some of the places they have been but Interceptor has always protected them.
  11. A vet vaccinated my 13 year old with the 3 year shot. I didn't feel it was a threat -she is very healthy generally- so in order to comply with the law I had it done. I wasn't going to but then I thought well- if heaven forbid there is ever one of those disasters then if I don't have proof of it then they wouldn't take her which means we would all have to stay since I'd never leave her. So I got it done basically so we could all evacuate together if need be since I didn't feel it was a threat to her. It didn't bother her at all.
  12. I get my from the Fresh Factor people www.springtimeinc.com They may not be the cheapest but I feel very confident of their quality. I know I won't get any cheap imported stuff with possible harmful inpurities and that doesn't work very good from them. Have used their products for many years and they are very effective because of their high quality. Therefore I don't consider that they cost extra. Its a classic case of you get what you pay for as I see it. I'll bet you would be amazed at how much better she gets if you were to just give her Fresh Factors. They are "made" for girls like her and the dogs love them as treats they taste so good! No problem getting them to eat them.

    Sophie

A special tribute to a lovely lady. My deepest sympathy. I know she is happy though- just think of all the saved greyhound lives she will ultimately be responsible for-starting with Teddy and Daisy. And think of all the good they will be responsible for and on and on, and to think all of that good is because of Sophie. What a wonderful legacy for such a special girl.
  14. That tribute goes straight to the heart. What a wonderful memoir. Reggie would love that I know. I am so sorry. I know the happiness that both of you experienced on toe nail dremmel night and when he got his Boomerang tag is a joy that will forever be a part of you both. You ARE forever united now.
