    Wallace Doyle

The time came today, for Wallace to make his way to The Bridge, to be reunited with his brothers and sisters. Until this very day, Wallace has been fine (after a diagnosis of a brain tumour back in August) but today was different and it was time for him to be at peace, where sausages grow on trees and where Fish4Dogs crispy fish skins are in abundance. We fostered Wallace for Tia Greyhound Rescue on 16th December 2001. We're not very good at this fostering malarky and we adopted him on 27th. He was our first retired racer but he's certainly paved the way for many others and we're very grateful for that. We'll miss him a lot Wallace Doyle 18th July 1998 - 2nd December 2008 First in the food queue. Just this side of Heaven.
  4. Almost four months on now, things have gone wrong. This morning, Wallace started drinking and weeing excessively. He also has rather loose stools. I've spoken to the vet about whether this is the start of active cushings symptoms and it probably is. We have an appointment for this afternoon but as the vet and I discussed on the phone a couple of hours ago - given Wallace's overall condition, would we want to offer treatment? I left it that we would take him in and have a chat but since then, he seems to be rather....I can't say distressed but not as I want him to be. We will still go to his appointment of course but my feeling is that it may be time to bring this to a close. There are three and a half hours to go till our appointment so no decision is yet final (and it could change 245543543 times between now and then). But I don't want him to suffer.
  5. I know insurance is different here in the UK but what you've said above is exactly what we encourage people to go for. A Covered For Life Policy. Anything else is really not worth paying for unless the insured dog is extremely old and unlikely to be requiring a policy the following year.
  6. I'm very sorry Sleep tight Jed
  7. Well. Wallace had virtually every test known to veterinary-kind to work out the cause of his significant weight loss and nothing every came up on the tests. So the final test was a full body MRI scan and we got our answer from that. Unfortunately, Wallace has a brain tumour, deep within his brain, close to the stem. Of course, this may not be the case at all with your friends greyhound but I just wanted to share our experience in case you want to mention the scan idea to her.
  8. My Maddison was 3 years old when diagnosed and 6 weeks past his 4th birthday when he died. I'm very glad to hear that your Gracie is cancer free

  14. I think you need to check this info with your vet. Can you give them a call and ask them?
  15. Darcy had two doses of adriamycin (Doxorubicin) as part of her chemo. I think it may be one of the drugs more likely to give some side effects although she had none at all after the first dose. She was quite poorly after the second dose but that was back in January of this year and today she's celebrating 13 months since her osteo diagnosis/amputation so I can tell you with all sincerity that yes there most certainly is hope that Stormy will feel better within the next few days I also wonder if Stormy has some medication to help him through this rough spot? If he doesn't, please do contact your vet.
