  1. I have no idea about prey drive but it just sounds like she loves to play . Now you know the term "stuffy killer" : lol. You will want to buy some cheap toys and also get a kong. It will keep her busy. Have fun with her! Day one and having the confidence to play is a good sign
  2. I have a friend whose grey was found to have prostate cancer. She didn't find out until the very end . I haven't heard of anyone else having that diagnosis. I remember her dog too had been urinating frequently and all over the house. She spent months trying to find a cause. She used to be a member here but isn't any more. I'll see if I can get her to come on and give you some information.
  3. Congratulations!!! They are adorable
  4. It was great talking with you. I know that you are a caring person and I do think you did the right thing. The right grey will come your way with some patience. Keep in touch with the groups and names I gave you and they can help. I also want to reiterate that it is more than ok to ask a group for a "trial" weekend. Not every dog is right for every person. Have a great day and I can't wait to hear from you when you get your dog
  5. You can email me at blambdin@verizon.net
  6. saabqueen - I have noticed a few things that are similar to another forum and I think you may be the same person? Do you live in the McKinney area? If so, I live in Plano. I would be more than happy to help you with whatever you need. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
  7. Weird! I found a boxer about 6 years ago in a parking lot and took him to my vet, he was also missing his tongue! My vet suspected that he had been hit by a car and possibly bitten it off. What does this boxer look like?
  8. You may think I'm crazy but I use a butter knife. Isis will lay and just let me pick at the tartar. The others won't let me near them
  9. I bring a pitcher of ice water and a bowl with me. I always have the dog on a leash and if we are just lounging under an umbrella then I will sometimes put THR leash loop on my foot, but this is with a dog I have had for several years. Never tie to a beach chair, not safe enough. Other than that I think a few trips to the water to cool off are good and if you can provide some shade it's great. I have been going to Dewey beach for the last 5 years (3 day trip) and the dogs and I really enjoy the traveling time as well as the beach time. For the car trip itself just make a comfy area. I leave collars on at all times but I unhook the leash while driving. I usually will stop for potty breaks with gas stops. The dogs do great. No need to stop more often unless you clearly see ghat the dog needs it.
  10. Ivy had Erlichea, babesiosis, anasplasmosis, and was heartworm positive. We were on doxy for about 6 months and then off for 4 months and then back on for another 6 weeks. In the begining she was really tired and we had to encourage her to eat. The second go around she had no signs other than the blood test. She is now very bouncy and energetic. Good luck to you. It's a long process but it can be overcome
  11. Isis only listens to me. My family laugh all the time because they will be calling her and calling her to get off the couch to go outside, I will walk in and just casually say, "Isis, go outside" and she jumps and goes while everyone rolls their eyes It's not like she won't ever do things for them but she chooses to have selective hearing around them
  12. My kids and I had to learn the hard way. The only way to keep things safe is to put them away. Unfortunately for us we lost several stuffed toys and a few of my favorite heels and tennis shoes were succombed before I finally learned.
  13. Can be totally normal but you can also help to "curb" the behavior. One of my females does this and If I see it I correct it. I just say , Ah Ah! and she stops. No big deal. For the puppy thing? Look on Greyhound Data but sometimes it isn't updated so just check back every once in a while or call the NGA with her tat numbers and they will tell you.
  14. My Isis has a cutaneous horn. It grows out of her pad. For the longest time I thought it was another toenail because it got so long then it broke off and looked like a corn. A few months later it grew again and it was then that I had someone tell me what it was. It's not painful to them and really causes no harm. Good luck! I hope you find what it is.
  15. I'm pretty sure the thread is done now. OP got her answers, the dog is going to a good home and now people just can't leave well enough alone. I'll ask that it be locked now. OP, if you have any other questions or need advice please feel free to start another thread. There are lots of experienced owners on here that are more than willing to help. Good luck to you, your family and to Timmy.
  16. I'll tell you the difference Verithb... the thread isn't about you. The OP asked opinions, opinions were given. You continually want to start an argument or question why others state things. I am not up to arguing or defending my opinion. I stated it and kindly gave advice to the OP to "be ok with her decision and move on". Now, I'll do the same for you too.... Be ok with your opinions and move on.
  17. I also am a nurse and I am going to ask you to please stop making so many excuses. You have made your decision and until now I am fine with it. But to continue to assume all these bad things happen because of the dog is not fair. What you need to start thinking when you see a child with a bite to the face is, "where were the parents?" and "Why was the child allowed to disturb the dog?". Your child was scaring the dog, your child was allowed to continue petting the dog even though you knew the dog was uncomfortable, you know that your dog is uncomfortable with the baby on the floor yet you won't separate them? I have kids and dogs. I have never thought of it as separating them to protect the kids, it was more to protect the dogs. Kids are loud, obnoxious at times and unpredictable. The dogs needed time away and to be safe. I have learned the hard way, one of my dogs bit a child that was in my care. Did we ditch the dog? NO. We did however learn from it and we became much more diligent in our teaching to the the kids and in our ways of protecting the dogs. You've chosen to give up the dog. Move on and be ok with it. It isn't up to others to make you feel better about your decision as 90% of this board would not do what you have done. I am actually of the opinion that you should give the dog up. GreysandMollie is right, not every dog is right for every home, however, I also believe that not every family is right for every dog. Hopefully Timmy will get his forever home.
  18. Every hour? I wouldn't stop that often, they don't need to go that much. If you are stopping each time they have no idea what you are wanting from them. Their routine was interrupted. It's not about potty training or even going on lead. I would make sure they went before getting in the car and if it's just a day trip maybe stop at about 4 or 5 hours and then get them out. They may or may not go then but typically if you will have the patience they will. I have been at rest stops close to 30 - 45 minutes to make sure they go before getting back in the car. You have to plan for some extra time when traveling with dogs (or kids). I say no to a flexi lead and especially while traveling. Just get a 6 foot lead and make sure the snap is good on it. Then, start walking so that they can smell around. It takes a while sometimes, but if you will praise, jump around, give cookies, and say "Yay Potty!!" they will eventually get the point and when you say "Lets go potty" they will.
  19. When we got Ivy and she wouldn't eat we finally resorted to cooking for her. She LOVED that. We cooked hamburger meat and egg noodles every night and also added in kibble to the skillet. At first she ate everything but the kibble But then as she started to feel better she would eat everything. As far as pills go, I just pilled her. Open mouth and push pills in as far back as my fingers went. Good luck.
  20. I have been reading and watching videos on Crate Games by Susan Garrett. She has several you tube videos and they are not only for puppies but I thought it would be excellent for some of our new owners here as well. Hope you enjoy and have fun playing
  21. Woot! Aww, the kids are going to love seeing this. My oldest Kaitlyn loved him. She called him Scooter He is one of these too With my youngest... And just cuz it's cute, I believe this is Rip Curtis, the brother with Kait. I loved this litter so much!!
  22. Judy and family, I was so very saddened when I saw the news of Saint. Because of him you were able to give me invaluable advice for Steak. You talked to me when I thought I was going insane and was emotionally drained. I will treasure the fact that you took time out of your own day to help me through mine. I hope they are running and playing together, seizure free! (((hugs))) and Thank you.
  23. Another option is to get a chuck it or a lure pole and find an enclosed baseball field. I take a bunch cord and tie the gate shut while I play with my dogs. It's our own private dog park :-) Bunch = bungy.
