  1. Here's a LINK to a website with more information about the herb artemesia as a treatment for cancer in people and pets. It also includes info re: sources of artemisinin compounds. I have a friend who was just diagnosed with breast cancer and plan to talk to her about it as an option and/or supplement to whatever treatment she decides to do. Edited to correct link
  2. I didn't hear about artemesia in the treatment of cancer until after I lost my weimaraner to hemgiosarcoma, but I would certainly have tried it. Although I hope I never need another cancer treatment for one of my dogs, I wouldn't hesitate to try it. I have two of C.J. Puotinen's books that I find to be valuable resources for alternative/complimentary medicine.
  3. It's so hard to see them get frail. The depro medrol injection Spiff referred to has worked a miracle in a friend's 12 year old boy. He was barely able to stand when she took a copy of Dr. Stack's article in to him and practically demanded they give it a try. He wasn't familiar with it, but finally gave in after much insistence on her part. He's like a new dog! He's going on walks again! I know it doesn't work in every case, but if your girl has lumbosacral stenosis (LS), it may be worth a try. I hope she feels better soon.
  4. Oh my. It's hard seeing it in writing. Thank you for posting.
  5. Oh look at her! I love her!!!! I could just smooch that tummy!

  7. from NC to the wonderful world of greyhounds! I know quite a few long time cat people who've been converted to dog people by this breed. You'll find this site an excellent resource on all things greyhound. Freckles is a beauty! edited to correct typo
  8. Hi Kim, It's good to hear from you, but not under these circumstances. I'm so sorry to hear you now have a worry about Silver. Nothing comes to mind right away from your description, but I will send all my healing thoughts. Please keep us posted about the lab work, etc.

  10. Healing thoughts and prayers for a swift and complete recovery.
  11. Checked out her photos on her myspace page. She IS a beauty! Congratulations!
  12. I've used chiropractic for my hounds (and myself) and feel it can be very beneficial. My bridge boy, Keno, started leaking urine out of the blue when I first adopted him. I'd read that sudden incontinence in males dogs could result from a lumbar vertebra being out of alignment. Since I'd just taken him to his first ever play group and he had run and played like a wild man, I took Keno in for an overall checkup and a chiropractic consult. The adjustment stopped the urine leakage right away. It happened once again about two years later, and immediately resolved after an adjustment. I can't speak to whether or not Zip's particular problem would benefit, but if you can locate a chiropractor in your area, I think it would be beneficial to have him checked out. Good luck. I hope he continues to improve.
  13. from NC! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your new girl.
  14. Oh no, Iris! I was so hoping this wasn't the case. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  15. Sending prayers and lots of white light!
  16. I am so very sorry for your loss.
  17. I'm also leary of new vaccines and over-vaccinating in general. I asked my vet (mixed practice traditional/holistic) about it a few weeks ago since my newest girl, Princess, appears to be one that's going to dental issues. He felt it was too new for him to feel good about recommending it. He pointed out that all the hype about it was written by the manufacturer -- kind of like all the praise for the Gardisil vaccine that was being pushed for young girls by Merck. Now, sadly, several girls have died ....
  18. That's a good question. I've read some stuff by Dr. McDowell who treats animals and people with herbal preparations. A Google search turned up this article LINK re: herbal support during chemotherapy. I do know that supporting the liver is vitally importance in assisting the body to fight cancer and he recommends various herbs for liver cleansing and support. ETA additional information
