  1. Rather than just putting a couple of spoonfuls of pumpkin on top of the kibble, mix it in with some water. That is how we feed it to our dogs.
  2. Welcome to the world of greyhoundsfrom Centreville, VA! I hope you're planning to attend Grapehounds VA next month. :-)
  3. Oh, Izzy! Gotta love how they steal stuff, but rarely chew any items.
  4. Our grey girl Darcy was a hoarder when we first got her. It did stop after about a year. Our favorite was when she peeled the carpet treads off our stairs and put them in her dog bed.
  5. I already stated that I don't carry any weapons when walking my dogs - but I don't condone those that feel safer doing so for whatever reason. When walking my dogs this morning, I was reminded that my Big, Barking Bonny is my best defense. She is leash aggressive with non-greyhounds. It drives me nuts, but perhaps its a good thing. I do try to be aware of my surrounds at all times and be on the lookout for other dogs. Bonny has developed a bit of a reputation in our neighborhood. Usually I'm the one crossing the street when I see other dogs coming. This morning, a lady walking her two dogs crossed the street to avoid us. That didn't stop Bonny from barking her head off.
  6. I'm not calling anyone anything. Just curious though... do you believe that carrying a spray, etc. would have helped you with something that happened in the blink of an eye? Crap happens. I'm not sure that carrying anything would necessarily help. I probably wouldn't have a chance to react while walking three greys at one time. I certainly would never put down anyone that feels safer carrying something if they believe it could help them. ETA... Sorry if I upset anyone by saying that "I prefer not to live my life paranoid about the "what ifs." I was speaking about myself. I've been called many things including naive, sheltered, etc. I don't own a gun, I don't carry any weapons, etc. Perhaps me or my dogs will be attacked one day, but I'd like to live life thinking the chances of that happening are pretty slim. Hope Chevy makes a full recovery and sorry for what you've been through.
  7. I agree with GeorgeofNE. I don't carry anything on me when walking the dogs. Thankfully, I live in a neighborhood where everyone seems to respect leash laws or confines their dogs in fenced yards. Yes, I'm lucky. In all the years I have been walking our dogs, I've never felt a threat. Call me what you will, but I prefer not to live my life paranoid about the "what ifs."
  8. I'm so very sorry for your losses. Sebau, Sully and Diesel are together again over the Bridge.
  9. Ditto. It works for our thunder phobe Bonny, but its essential that we put it on before the storm actually hits. ETA... I think Bonny's is an XL. She is BIG greyhound though - even bigger than many grey boys.
  10. We use martingale collars on two of our greys. The other wears a harness due to a compressed disc in her neck. We have used both the Premier Sure Fit or Wiggles, Whiskers and Wags No-Pull harnesses. Both work equally as good.
  11. Same here. After the last turnout, we tell our pack "go to bed" and they all run upstairs to our room.
  12. My DH and our greyhound Celeste - who was Faye Oops BFF - volunteered at our groups adoption today. Celeste was the "demo dog" used to show the adoptive families how to care for their new dog. Six new dogs went to famlies today. It was a wonderful way to honor Faye Oops memory.
  13. This week artist Xan Blackburn completed this portrait of our greyhound Darcy. I call Darcy my "heart healer" because she really stepped-up and bonded with me following Faye Oops death. Each of our greyhounds has a "signature" color. I told Xan that Darcy's color was purple. Xan chose to use blue in the background of this painting. What Xan didn't know was that blue was Faye Oops color. I know it's a sign that Faye Oops is still with us and wants Darcy to continue to take care of her mama.
  14. One year ago today (December 1) our Faye Oops crossed the bridge. We only had her for 1.5 years, but her big personality made a big impact on our lives. Faye Oops was my "heart dog." I hate that osteosarcoma took her away from us. Tribute video made by Faye Oops former family. They had her for 7 years, but had to return her due to divorce, etc. Faye Oops was a lucky dog to be loved by two families.
  15. Same when I was in retail, but that more like folding sweaters and filling in displays - Not jacking up a full pallet with canned goods stacked 6 ft. high then taking the pallet to the back and jacking it down when called to your register. Maybe it is just my Aldi but the people that work there always have an air of panic to them as they scurry past. You never worked at a K-Mart then. I'll admit that Hecht's was pretty cushy, but I only had that job one summer. I spent three summers and school breaks working at the Big K with my trusty red apron with my box knife ready to move pallets, stock shelves, trek back to the warehouse to put boxes in the compressor and run up to the register whenever I was called (this was long before self check-out stations).
  16. That is how my jobs at K-Mart and Hecht's (now Macys) when I was a student were always done. We were all trained to stock and run a cash register - whatever was needed and could vary throughout the shift. As for the OP... nope, never been in an Aldi although there is one about 10 miles from us.
  17. We gave Pepcid AC to our greyhound Faye Oops when she was taking various medications when she had osteo. We've also given it to our other dogs on other occasions - usually when they had an upset tummy related to other medications. No negative affects. I'd discontinue as soon as his belly is back to normal.
  18. Leaving work today I was thinking of you, Christine, knowing that the anniversary of Hailey's passing was coming soon. Until I opened GreyTalk just now, I didn't realize that it was, in fact, today. Your sweet girl is over the rainbow bridge snuggling with her half-sister Faye Oops.
  19. I'm so very sorry, Robin. You've all been through so much already these past couple of weeks. To lose Elsie Lou right now is just so unfair. Osteo SUCKS!!! (((HUGS))) to you, Rich and the rest of your wonderful pack.
  20. WOW - hard to believe it's been a year already. I hope that you continue to have more good days with your sweet, pretty Pinky.
  21. I feel your pain. We've spent well over $2,500 in vet bills between my horse and 2 of our 3 greyhounds in the past month alone.
  22. I'm so very sorry about Cooper's diagnosis. Six is way too young. I hate osteo so much. Sending lots of to your family and Cooper. Remember that you know your boy best. There is no "right" way of doing things with this disease - just do the best you can and for Cooper.
  23. If you have a BJs Wholesale Club membership, consider their Berkley and Jensen dog food. We switched our grey girls over to it following the repeated Diamond recalls (we used to feed Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice). Our girls like the Berkley and Jensen and their systems agree.
