  1. I'd use Wounded Warrior (aloe based natural antibiotic) and soem vet wrap and cookies. Poor pupper.
  2. Hi Pat, One very important thing, do not discontinue the Atopica without consulting your vet. It has been awhile since I had to do the research, but if I remember right-you can't just go cold turkey on this one either. The steriods and the steroid/antihisimine mixture can't be stopped without weaning off the doseage and I believe it is the same for the Atopica. I did try homeopathic remedies for my allergy hound, but his allergies were so severe that it didn't help him and it turned out he was allergic to fillers in pills among other things. I am a firm believer in homeopathy, but in the case of Atopica vs the natural route-the Atopica is going to block the results if any of the homeopathic medicine. I think this is one case where you need to consult your vet before proceeding. Good luck with your pup though. Allergies are an awful thing.

    Goods

Oh Diane, I'm so so sorry.
  4. Wysong has one.... It's a little bit down on my page and there is more info at wysong.net http://www.crazyforcollars.com/supplements/wysong.html
  5. I'd be inclined to find another vet. A good vet is priceless, and I'll pay what it costs-but I don't like it when the clinic sees my checkbook before the fact that my pup needs help. A small markup is understandable, but that seems excessive to me.
  6. Hopefully Dempsey got you all to hisself. Good boy Dempsey! Keep healing!
  7. Poor Spud! Poor you. Sorry I was burning fish when you called.
  8. Steriods are commonly used to calm down an allergic reaction. Temeril P is a combo of an anithistamine plus prednesone. Thyroid is a possibility, but I wanted to mention that some manufacturers will make changes in a formula without announcing it. It could explain why he was fine and then started having symptoms again. Also, it is common for allergies to a reoccuring item to develop over time as well. I don't have any experience with Lupus either, but it was a thought that crossed my mind as well. Good Luck to your pup.
  9. Oh owie! Poor baby! Poor you! First...have you had TBD testing done? Second, I would compare the ingredients that you were feeding when you did the home cooked diet vs the Eagle Pack? "worst bacterial infection the lab has ever seen possibly caused by allergic dermatitis" is what the pictures look like, and allergic dermatitis is usually a contact type allergy. What kind of bowls are you using for feeding? If you aren't using stainless steel, I would recomend several sets of dishes so that you can sterilize them after and keep the bacteria or if it is a fungus from being reintroduced to his poor face. Have you and your new vet discussed allergy testing? Constant allergic reactions can weaken the immune system opening it up to reoccuring infections. Allergy testing isn't hugely accurate from what I understand in the food department, but I found it to be a good place to start with my allergy hound, and it was pretty right on actually for his food allergies. With is food allergies though, he was constantly scratching, gnawing, licking, and face rubbing.

    Daphne Is Gone

    I'm so so sorry. :grouphug
  11. Oh dear. I'm so sorry. It is such a horrible thing to have to go through, but I think it is the deepest and most loving thing we can do for our family.
  12. That is really a hard one. My original post was from 2006, and since then Diesel and his sister have turned 10 and we lost our almost 3 yo hound to a stroke from complications from medication and undiagnosed thyroid cancer. I had to make that awful decision to help my hound. It was painfully obvious that he was suffering, so I guess it was a no brainer, but I'm still bawling as I type this. I took the advice from some wise greytalkers to heart a long time ago, and the decision happens when the quality of life is poor. When your pup doesn't enjoy anything-food-play-sleep-petting-ect... they are telling you it's time. If you see the fire and the spark at least in some activity, then they are telling you they aren't ready. You could post your question in another thread and get better answers, I stink at getting my point across through posting-but there are unfortunately a lot of GTers that have had too much experience with having to choose what is best for their hound and maybe they can give you better insight. But, back to your baby-have you tried really good glucosamines? I have Diesel on a Wellness joint supplement that seems to make all the difference in the world for him, and he hasn't required Deramaxx in a long time. He does go through a bad spell once in awhile, and requires baby asprin and pepcid for a bit-but he seems pretty good right now knock on wood.
  13. I'm placing an order today, so if you want some-shoot me a pm and I'll get you a shipping quote.
  14. http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php?showtopic=191230 I just ordered some for my pups, and we will give it a test. If it's all good-then I'll carry it at the shop. Pretty soon, I'll need a bigger shop!
  15. He seems to be all better!!!! I did some som hot water to his food last night and this morning. (His kbr is given in his food) I dont know if that helped, but I intend to do that from now on. He made a nice normal hard bowel movement today! Best of all, NO SEIZURES! Yay!
  16. She's in the middle of losing all her puppy teeth and she's only 4 months old. He said we could do her spay as soon as 3 weeks from now. I did tell him we would probably wait longer than that, but they will call and remind me. (like I would forget... ) This is a fairly new vet to me, and I'm not super impressed with them. BUT....ALL 3 pups LOVE them and going there, where the old office was a struggle to get them in the door. Thanks guys, I feel better.
  17. How old should a puppy be when you have them spayed? My vet says you can spay as soon as 5 months, and my little voice says that isn't right. After my last vet fiasco, I'm a little gun shy-so GT opinions mean a lot. Thanks.
  18. Poor Sweetie. It always amazes me how much worse you have to make a booboo look to get it to heal right. Lucy jumped through a rose bush and had a small wound kind of like Suds, and when we left the vet, it looked like the after too. We don't have rose bushes any more. Give Suds an extra cookie or two and he will feel better tomorrow.
