  1. Poor Gracie. I hope you are getting extra biskies and feel better soon!
  2. I have heard about a laser treatment to treat periodontal disease in people and pets that might be worth looking into. I think flushing the crud out helps keep the bacteria down. I'd bet I could put a little something IN the water to help as well, but the daily rinsing has helped a ton-so I don't want to mess with the fact that they will let me do it. I use the denta treat as a reward, since they like the taste and treat it like a "flouride" treatment and don't give them anything to eat for about a half an hour after I brush with it. I don't use it on their food at all anymore, just to brush with or I'll rub their gums with it just straight off my finger. I'f I let up for a day with the brushing, Lucy backslides so fast and within a week her teeth are brown again. So, you aren't the only one struggling.
  3. They would never stand for the rinses. I've tried them before and purchased them from the vet. The squirty bottle works great but they HATE the rinse. (I actually think I've tried pretty much every product out there...) When they see the bottle they run and hide. They don't mind the spray bottle, and as senior greyhounds that have put up with a lot, I think they have earned that. Dentatreat is the only thing I have found that they will willingly let me brush their teeth with, and it works as a reward as well as having the enzymatic properties to eat gunk off their teeth. I actually use the people version to brush my teeth as well. I rinse first, then gentle brush or dental wipes, and then rinse again to get the ickies out. Lucy wagged her tail today while she got the second rinse. She was a crate chewer, so her teeth have always been bad-but this year after her dental they look worse than they did BEFORE the dental. I won't be doing that to her again soon.
  4. I really like DGP It has made a world of difference in Diesel, and you can contact the company and they will send you samples.
  5. Lucy has pockets along her gumline that catches everything and makes her breath wretched. I wanted to get a water pik, but keep reading the portable ones are worthless and haven't found one on sale. Out of desperation, I got a squirt bottle and once a day I take her out back and squirt along the gumline and rinse rinse rinse. She is really good and holds her head still but down and all the nasty gunk just flushes out. (It is GROSS.) I brush lightly with nothing, rinse the brush and then brush again with the denta treat and pack it in the back and let her lick the denta treat off the toothbrush. Her breath is soooo much better and I think she secretly likes it. I see a big improvement already in the tartar that was starting to build up after her last dental, and I figured since we all struggle with our houndies teeth I would share. Diesel doesn't like it as much, but he will put up with it. He hasn't figured out it is ok to drool in the yard... Sally wants in on it, but she would rather me squirt her face so she can bite the water stream.
  6. That's what I do as I have a couple of poop eaters. It is the best way to fix that, get it before they do. I have a poop eater too. GROSS! But, I got to vote twice in the poll! I'm not sure how it happened... I try to pick up as soon as it happens, so multiple times per day to once a day.
  7. USPS just made those Large Flat Rate Priority boxes, so it is $12.95 to your destination as long as it makes it in the box. And if you are stuck and need something, it might be cheaper to ship from WA. I know a couple people who live there who need to do a few good deeds. Hope that helps.
  8. Love the border pic! Thanks for sharing your trip. I use muzzles as cupholders in the car too.
  9. Glad to hear the swelling is going down. I think that means allergy reaction for sure. She may need more benedryl tomorrow if she was bitten by something, so I'm crossing my fingers that her feet stay happy.
  10. Is it just her feet bottoms, or is it working up the leg? Does there seem to be swelling in the ankles? Not to worry you more but if yes, that would make me think vascular or cardio. Is your vet cool enough to call and ask possibilities and opinions if you explain $ is tight? Hugs for Happy and a beverage later for you...
  11. More good thoughts for the Moose...
  12. I wouldn't use Murphy's. I think the waxes and wood conditoners would be bad for a grey to ingest if they lick it off. Plus I would bet the PH is wrong for dog's skin. We use and carry Bobbi Panter's line of shampoos, because they are very concentrated and rinse very clean. I will also use an empty catsup bottle or similar type (actually a hairdresser's color bottle) and put shampoo in the bottom and add water, then squirt all over and lather. That way there isn't a blob spot on the skin that is hard to rinse out. Bobbi Panter Shampoo
  13. A big roo to you guys from the other side of WA. We are in Richland/Tri-Cities. Congrats on your upcoming new pup!
  14. I know BooMooandDoo carries this product... DGP I'm waiting on samples for Diesel, but it got raves in the Whole Dog Journal. Hugs for your baby.
  15. Let me know what you hear back from Pullman, and I'll get the guest room set up for you and Moose. It is about 2 hours from here, and I can drive.
  16. Oh no! I am so sorry.
  17. Did the itching start within a day or 2 of the lake? 1st thing I would do is give the pup a bath, or at least rinse the lake water off. If it is pollen, it could be stuck to the skin from the lake water or oil in her fur. However....too many baths too often can cause dry skin itching. Fleas, you should be able to see with the naked eye. I'd go outside where the light is good, roll her over and do a good monkey inspection through her fur. If you see something running or jumping away-then there are critters. I'm betting it's not fleas though... Hogan's allergies were so bad he had to be rinsed off every time he went through a field, and our river water is fishy enough everybody gets the hose after swimming. (I'm so mean they even line up for me....DH installed a warm water spigot in the garage for me because Hoho needed rinsing all the time.)
  18. We use Tripett too-and that is so true! Taste of the Wild for dry and bully sticks for treats, plus cookies and jerky.
