  1. Belle looks good! I'm glad she's feeling spunky enough to remove the vaseline!
  2. I'm glad to hear that she is improving. Does she like fish oil on her food? I'd be inclined to let her eat whatever she wants even if it is liver cake with ice cream on top. Eat up Softee!
  3. Same here about Dr. Couto. I think it is extremely important to seek a second opinion in event of serious illness. I get 2 different opinions in the same vet clinic on something so simple as do you or don't you run a thyroid medicine trial? I'm really happy that Finnegan's story has a happy ending.
  4. We had a different bad reaction with our non-grey, but I agree that the same medication can react differently. It is frustrating. I'm glad you figured it out. Kiss your sweet senior for us. Hopefully the vet has found something else that will help?
  5. She looks awesome! With all she's been through she looks great and not scary skinny. Don't worry about the muscle tone, it will come back and I'm sure she would really enjoy the trip.
  6. Sending you big hugs and prayers for you guys. Get some good rest. I'm so glad she is home with you.
  7. Oh no! I'm so sorry. We will all be there holding your hand.
  8. I've had 3 dogs that have had the intermuscular shot, and usually by the end of the day they are feeling better. I've seen it come out of both ends and the dog not be very perky for the day, but usually are feeling much better the next. These dogs just had the imdocarb and no antibiotics. Diesel cried when he was shot and threw up as soon as we got home, slept most of the day and didn't pant a lot. (Both times.) Lloyd looked at the vet like "What ever did I do to you?" His nose dripped, and he didn't eat most of the day, slept a lot and the next morning tore it up in my front yard like nobody's business. This is a dog that couldn't stand for more than 10 min because he was so tired and underweight. 2nd shot, he acted like nothing at all happened and wanted a cookie when we got home. Emma cried the GSOD, and had a drippy nose, threw up on the vet and lost the other end on the way out to the car. I had to sweet talk the vet into letting me take her home instead of leaving her there for observation. She did pant most of the morning and laid in the sun in the yard and wanted to be left alone. The second shot she took much better, still threw up in the yard-but no other signs of discomfort. I don't know the whole story on Chancy's symptoms, but we are keeping you guys in our good thought pile. I hope she is feeling better and you are too.
  9. Awwww, give Bodie a gentle hug from us and a big kiss too. I'm glad he's eating again.
  10. Poor Monty. I second the potato chips. I bake thick slices in the oven, or just break down and buy the baked ones sometimes for Hogan. I get sweet potato chews from BooMooandDoo's store in Seattle, along with a bunch of other allergy treats. I don't know if she has rabbit, but I know maybe later Monty can have fish and duck. Hugs for both of you. I think you can get canned rabbit meat and mix it with instant potatoes and bake something stinky for him too.
  11. It is my coonhound that reacted badly to the prednisone. We are in the middle of thyroid investigation plus some other things. The antihistamine that he is on is.....chlorpheniramine My greys have both taken the same stuff and seem to do better on than the benedryl. Maybe I have just given them enough over the years that they are immune to it now.
  12. Flea allergies are really common, unfortunately. You do need to watch out for tapeworms in your pup now. Poor Pearson. Fleas aren't as common here, but we have used Reveloution here. As far as fur regrowth, I recommend Grizzly Salmon Oil as a supplement. I have used capsules and such with not much results but am blown away by Diesel's furry bum since being on the Grizzly. You can get it online...I get mine at A Dog's Dream
  13. This is the red hound, Hogan. He's almost a grey hound. He's almost 3-and with the really freaky and scary reaction to the Temeril P we have been diligent about his food and trying to control his environmental allergies. The vet constantly shakes his head about allergies since he is so shiny on top-but you flip him over and he chews all the fur off his legs and chest. So between that and the agression on the steroids, we thought we would run a full panel on his thyroid. I'm going out of town for the weekend, and have an appointment at the vet on tuesday-so I'll have a bunch of questions now for them. Thank you Dr. Bill, I really appreciate your post. It helps.
  14. There are some symptoms that pointed to testing...but I think you just answered my question. I don't need too much meds in this dog. Thanks Batmom, you always have good advice and kind words.
  15. I did read that with great interest and threw out a big old long pm to Dr. Bill. There is just a lot of questions that the report created, and I really need to make sure before I "test" the soloxine.
  16. I'm gonna agree here too. Our vet prescribed an antihistamine for my dog and it is working very well and is UBER cheap. I'll look at the name when I get home. Oatmeal can be an allergen as well, and it was my dog that had the reaction from the Temeril P. (But that is another story....) Another very important thing to do as well is get a thyroid panel, not just the one result T4. Some dogs, not all though can be itchy from hypothyroid. And, we use Wellness Simple Solutions Venison & Rice whichis great if you need a food with a few ingredients. Some dogs can be allergic to rice as well-however. I'll find out the antihistamine name and get back to you.
  17. A houndies test results have me scratching my head.....I guess the diesel fumes here have gotten to me. Anybody want to give me the english version of what this says? Endocrinology Interpretation: Thyroid hormone concentrations are low but there is not the elevation of thyroid stimulating hormone that occurs with most cases of primary hypothyroidism. The negative autoantibody results decrease the likelihood of lymphocytic thyroiditis. These results present a diagonostic dilema. The pattern of results in this profile may reflect a metabolic response to other non-thyroidal illnesses and/or medication and the dog is not hypothyroid. However, hypothyroidism remains a possibility, as a small percentage of hypothyroid dogs do not have an elevation of thyroid stimulating hormone. A decision to initiate thyroid supplementaion depends on the strength of the clinical signs of hypothyroidism and the confidence that there is no other underlying illness. scratch scratch scratch hmmmm, so the underlying message I got is they have no idea if I should treat or not. TT4 = 5 L TT3 = 1.0 FT4 = 5 L FT3 = 2.5 L T4 aa = 2 T3 aa = 5 thyroid stimulating hormone = 16 thyoglobulin autoantibody = 12 So this raises questions too, not only what I should ask the vet-but if you do treat with solaxine-what are the side effects if they don't need it? Thanks in advance!
  18. Poor Mazie Moose! I hope she feels better soon!
