Hey Meredith - haven't read pages 2 & 3 but Cody had pancreatitis once and gastritis OFTEN! Something greasy or fatty would set her off, so it could have been the hotdog, expired or not - very fatty!! Hope you get it resolved soon - and NO MORE FATTY TREATS!! (That includes Greenies - one set her off once & she never had another!) Good luck! -

Yep - Cody did have weight loss & muscle wasting from it - that probably ultimately led to her demise, but she was 12.5 years old at that point and I got an extra 1.5 years with her because of the pred! A good trade-off, I think...

My girl Cody was on it for about 18 months for a bulgy disc in her back. She was STARVING most of the time - that was her main side effect. A friend's grey was on a VERY large dose for about 4 years and she lost some hair (a lot really) and had the distended belly they can get with long-term pred. But in both cases, the pred kept us from having to lose them earlier due to their injuries/disease.

Really sounds like separation anxiety to me too - they'll often try to get out. Has there been a change to the schedule or routine? You may have to try alone training again with him - but there are others here much more experienced with SA... -

I'd still try the acupuncture too - it really helped Cody with her back injury! And she looks great!! Also if her liver values are off, try some milk thistle - it's a great supplement for liver support! You can get it at GNC or other stores that have vitamin-y things - I think my grocery store even has it...

Cody couldn't have rice - she'd have horrible gurgly stomach. She was always on boiled hamburger & cooked pasta when she had intestinal problems. But never rice! Maybe he's allergic to it? My vet said that's more common than people think... Also - I always used Prozyme on her food (digestive enzyme) in between her bouts of bloody diarrhea. Hope you can find something that works for poor Merlin!!

Hope the steroids help - they usually do! And don't be afraid to ask your vet to keep her on them longer if you think she needs them. My Cody had a back problem (bulgy disc) and she was on prednisone for 1.5 years
