Guest bphelan
New to the forum, just adopted our boy Leo about a week ago. Our vet recommended bully sticks for his teeth, so I ordered some from bestbullysticks.com and also threw some turkey necks in my cart as I have read that here that they're also good for teeth in raw form. Has anyone had experience with the dried turkey necks from bestbullysticks? Here's a shot of Leo doing his favorite thing...roachin'
Time4ANap
I don't know that the dried turkey necks will have the same effect as a raw one. Haven't tried the dry ones. The raw one requires a lot of chewing action which cleans the teeth Check your local butcher shop for raw turkey necks, or check to see if there is a raw food supplier in your area. We can't feed Bully Sticks due to Rocket's sensitive tummy, but there are many people here who do. They will provide you with info on their favorite suppliers. Welcome to GreyTalk! Beachbum1
I had a problem last year with consistent sizing with BestBully, and switched over to these people for their 12" jumbo odor-free bully sticks. Pricing is good, too. http://www.happydogplace.com/dogs/index.php?products_id=1720&cPath=
Hubcitypam
I've only used raw turkey necks. Best sources for those are Hispanic and Asian markets.
Guest roweboy
Leo is a cutie! I also use frozen, raw turkey necks that I get from a butcher. It took a lot of phone calls around town to find them but now I order them and give one to my dog every week. These are huge - about a pound each - but he loves them and his teeth look amazing. It takes him close to a half hour to eat them from a solidly frozen state. I've never had the dried ones. Good tip on Hispanic or as Asian markets - I'll have to look into that! Guest bphelan
Still a bit hesitant about the mess/salmonella risks (for me, not the dog I know their gut can handle it) of feeding him raw turkey necks, but I guess that seems to be the way to go, I guess if you source the meats from a reputable place the salmonella risks are some what mitigated. I wouldn't suck my thumb after handing them a turkey neck, but I'd probably scratch my nose. Where in Jersey are you? We have a Sunday walk in Hamilton if you're anywhere nearby. WabbitGTI
Where do you folks feed them their necks? I'd be worried about frozen turkey bits finding their way into my carpet or the crevices in the kitchen and then thawing out.

We're in North Brunswick, thats with GFNJ right? That's who we adopted Leo (Mongolian Bakin') from. We may make the trip down some Sunday. He's just so darn lazy, gets totally tired out just walking around the block! Hopefully, we'll work up to some longer walks first before we come joing you all. We don't have a private outdoor space currently so I lay down a towel, make him lay on it and eat it there. Then the towel goes right into the washer. Quote Padfoot the greyhound fr. RedHead
I feed outside usually. If I feed inside I feed on those plastic picnic/table cover sheets you can get. They are plastic, so I can easily wipe off and I don't have to throw in the wash every time.

(All hound families are welcome. Mine are NGAP dogs). We start at ten in the summer. It's hot! There's a small stream and a nice lake to cool the dogs in. You're 100% right to wait to take Leo on long walks. His feeties may need to toughen up. Quote Masterful Joe and Naughty N Nice
