PatricksMom
He goes in to see the soft tissue surgeon about his lump near his spine. Hopefully they will be able to sucessfully remove it and get a clearer answer from pathology about what it was. We can use all your best wishes for nervous mom and cyber-hugs for Murphy. If they operate, he has to stay overnight. I'm comfortable with him staying medically--they have staff on 24/7 and a vet lives on the premises--but I'm worried he's going to think we've abandoned him. We've had him 1 month today and he's a very special little boy who loves his mom and wants to cuddle more than anything, including food. Godspeed Patrick (28 April 1999 - 5 August 2012), Murphy (23 June 2004 - 27 July 2013), Leo (1 May 2009 - 27 January 2020), and Henry (10 August 2010 - 7 August 2020), you were loved more than you can know. PatricksMom
The practice is an hour and a half away, so I think DH will leave after our appointment, and if he's going to have surgery I'll stay until he can pick me up in the evening--the work I need to get done tomorrow can be done there. PatricksMom
The surgeon spent about 45 minutes with us. She was willing to operate if we wanted, and didn't think it would be any problem, but felt based on its size and the fact that it's softened a bit after the last 2 days, coupled with the path report, that it was very unlikely to be malignant. So we're going to wait until he's done with the Cipro and it's out of his system, then do another FNA and hopefully culture that. So unless it gets larger or becomes harder that's what we're going to do. Part of me really wanted to do the surgery to be done with it, but putting him through what she felt was very likely to be unnecessary surgery didn't seem sensible just to calm my nerves, particularly since he was just under anesthesia a little over a month ago. Thank you everyone for the positive thoughts. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). PatricksMom
Updating again: we switched main vet practices. The new vet looked at the path report and said she had no idea where the other vet even came up with the idea of cancer but that she's worked with the surgeon we saw a lot and thought she was excellent.
