I went to pick Star up from the kennel, like I had a hundred times, the past 6 years we had her. When I got there I chatted with the couple that owns the kennel, like I had a hundred times since we had Star. Dale went back to get her, then came and got his wife. I wrote my check and waited for them to bring me a leashed and excited "I love the kennel, but let's go home" Star, like I have a hundred times in the past 6 years. But on these day in August instead of Star, I had the owner of the kennel come out of the back without her. She then starts to tell me Star was fine at 3 for her last turn out (it's now 4:20) but she's laying in her kennel, and must've had a heart attack. The next few hours a blur of tears, sadness, regret and questions, kind of like the past 6 months. Wondering if I kissed her and told her I loved her before she left that day for the kennel before we left to go on vacation. Wondering if things would've been different if I had been able to pick her up the day before when we got home instead of having to wait until Sunday because of the kennels weekend hours. I also wonder why. I had Star into the vet about a week before we left because "things just didn't seem right" with her, and they found nothing. I hope she knows I was coming back for her. It just was like that. My heart breaks with yours.
