Hollis
Baby food right? Having never had children, I'm clueless as to what's out there. What am I getting? What "stage"? What flavor? Isn't cat food another one? Any particular flavor? If I do nothing else I NEED to get norms pills in to him. He's getting so wobbly. This can't be "it" can it????? Sambuca
I can't answer your last question, but I can help with the food question. Canned tuna is a big hit, raw green tripe, eggs any way, liver, cheese. Anything stinky is good. But if he's nauseous, something bland may be better. I hope he feels better soon. TheFullHouse
Nutrital Yeast, you can get it at any whole Foods or Health food store. It tastes like cheese and has all the B vitamins which stimulate the appetite. A tablespoon in each meal worked for me with Emmy when she quit eating. Sambuca
I like tuna in water for them and they love the tuna juice. You can even soak some kibble in the juice to help get him to eat more. Hollis
But shakes cheese hasn't interested him at all. I don't get it. He's just STOPPED eating. Friday he ate fine. He came to work with me. He was fine. We stopped on the way home and had a mani/pedi. He was tired by the time we got home but ok. He ate Friday night. Saturday breakfast he didn't finish and Friday dinner I had to coax with shaky cheese after every couple of bites. And thats it. Dammit. I keep thinking that having him out on Friday was to much and I did this somehow..... I like tuna in water for them and they love the tuna juice. Guest summernights
Gem was having inappetance due to her Cushing's medication, and was getting scary skeletal. The vet sells a Purina chicken and rice canned food that we've found Gem loves, and we mix that with plain (full-fat) yogurt, either canned pumpkin or sweet potato puree, a healthy sprinkling of nutritional yeast, a ribbon of calorie gel (pet stores sell it) and a little scoop of dry kibble. We heat it up in the microwave so it's warm and smelly and mix it well. I call it "horrible meat pudding". She'll usually eat the whole plateful at once! She's definitely been gaining some of her lost weight back. Good luck!

gryhnd_adoptee
When our girlie was sick and refusing food, a few things worked, but seemed to be they only worked once each. Here are a few things we tried: Fat meat balls.....slightly nuked Melted peanut butter on really crunchy toast Baby food meat jars....was an expensive alternative and they are really small - I think turkey was her favorite Deli roast beef Boiled chicken livers Boiled beef liver Raw nuggets - don't remember the brand name but know I got them from the freezer at the pet store - Chicken and beef were her favorites. Took a few out every night to thaw for her to eat. Yogurt Vanilla Ensure - cold was best I know there had to me more, but for the life of me cannot remember any more at the moment. All I remember was how I would spend about four hours a day to coax her to eat. It was soooo hard.
kudzu
Sorry I don't know his story but am assuming he is already under vet care for some condition. If not a vet visit is definitely in order. Anyway that's my disclaimer, now... One of the best appetite stimulants I've found is B-12 injections. These are practically painless when done sub-q instead of IM. I do this at home. It's dirt cheap compared to just about anything else. It is also a big help with some of the causes of weakened hind ends. Hope you find something that helps. racindog
There's a high calorie supplement called Dyne (I think thats the name) that I use judiciously that helps Momma eat sometimes when I think she otherwise wouldn't. Others on here are familiar with it because thats where I learned about it. Momma also likes that Fresh Pet from the grocery now and then and raw green tripe but the big key with her is to rotate her foods.
kamsmom
When we got Ivy and she wouldn't eat we finally resorted to cooking for her. She LOVED that. We cooked hamburger meat and egg noodles every night and also added in kibble to the skillet. At first she ate everything but the kibble But then as she started to feel better she would eat everything. As far as pills go, I just pilled her. Open mouth and push pills in as far back as my fingers went. Good luck. Guest sirsmom
When my Sir had osteo he loved anything Italian tasting (might have been the tomato sauce and herbs) like a little lasagna, a meatball that came out of the spaghetti etc. I mean really that is all he wanted. XTRAWLD
Rice usually works to coax my boy. Even mashed potatoes and gravy....a little on kibble and hes off to the races. But he usually doesnt eat because he is not food motovated in general (until lately much to my surprise). If he stopped eating out of the blue and hasnt been to a vet, this should be done first. I also think that while not eating for a day is a bit alarming, he should certainly be eating the next in the very least. Kasey went on "hunger strike" before but always went back to eating.....he is just not big on eating. If your pup generally does eat lots and now does not, thats a big deal. Yamaha_gurl
I know this is probably not the norm, but what about babysiting another dog...and feeding the dog at the same time as you would feed Norm. Bella is sometimes picky, but this past weekend I babysat a brindle boy...and boy did Bella ever eat when she noticed the other dog was eating too! She would look up from her food at him, watch him for a second, then scarf down her food just as fast as when she came fresh off the track. Guest KennelMom
Stella had inappetance from Cushings that we never could resolve. If you don't know why he's stopped eating, I'd get him to the vet. If he has something else going on and just isn't hungry, you can try all manner of stinky foods - cat food, canned dog food, cheeses, meats, liverwurst, sausage...lordy, we tried them all. Your vet can also prescribe an appetite stimulant as well.

Guest KennelMom
For Stella, the initial symptoms were: Significant weight loss, muscle wasting. Excessive drinking Excessive peeing (can’t go more than 3 hours) Appetite waxes and wanes, generally OK Coat looks like crap, rough, dull, dry, brittle, even the color has changed. Hair loss along the limbs, butt, belly, ears Lethargy, depression, general “doing poorly” Skin seems very thin, fragile and almost transparent, esp on the legs It was towards the end that she lost her appetite entirely. Other than that, we had her Cushings well-controlled with meds. But, if a dog won't eat, there's only so much you can do Fortunately, I don't think Cushings is very common in greyhounds.
