Bone Changes But Vet Feels It's Not Osteo

Recommended Posts

OSU can't determine if there it's osteo from the radiograph I sent (higher quality ones from what I posted but still not enough). I need to get a series of additional views for them before they can make a call on any potential lesions.

The poor guy hates the vet and the last thing I want to do is drag him back, but that's what we are going to have to do.

ACK!!!!!!!

That's a bummer. :( They didn't even have a suspicion one way or the other? The only reason I ask is if they thought it was a possibility, you could also consider doing an FNA. Not definitive either of course and more invasive than an x-ray so probably a dumb idea, but figured I'd mention it.

Hoping you have answers soon. :goodluck Neyla was terrified at the vet as well so I understand. Thankfully our ortho specialist had a "quiet room" off the waiting room where we could go in by ourselves and shut the door. Because of that and their better equipment, I just kept going there for x-ray rechecks.

That was pretty much my response, too, Robin! And now it's a holiday weekend. The good thing is he's still not showing signs of pain - the deramaxx seems to be keeping things in check.

What they want is: mediolateral and a craniocaudal or caudo-Cranial.

The vet took shots of the entire left leg - shoulder, elbow, foot, etc. since we weren't entirely sure where the issue was - but we didn't get multiples of the "problem" spot.

No - no suspicions. Just that they needed more views. I did ask specifically if we should get the FNA, and no answer on that at this point either. Which - I'm happy to get more x-rays. I'd rather that then a less-than-optimal read, you know? My heart's already been through enough with this.

We did take him out for mcnuggets the other day. He was so freakin' happy.

Did Dr. Couto respond and ignore that question? Or just no response to the email where you asked? Dr. Couto has a habit of selectively answering I've noticed, so you might try just following up with a quick email asking that one question and see if you hear back before you had back to the vet. Really it probably depends a lot on what you'd do if it is osteo.

Um, that photo is ADORABLE!

No response either way - and it was Dr. Marin, not Dr. Couto (another thread said he was on vaca, I believe). I responded back with a few additional questions but I'm likely not to hear back until Tuesday, I'd think.

If it is osteo.... he's not a great candidate for an amp. He has a bad back leg that has always bothered him since he retired (we spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out why, and never got clear answers on what's wrong) and so I think he'd really struggle as a tripod. As it is, that back leg is essentially a kickstand at times. However, I'm keeping things open and am willing to investigate whatever options are available to us that will be the best for him. His phobia of the vet also plays into it too.

Yeah, he's pretty much the cutest dog on the planet, if you ask me. :P

Thinking of you - hope the vet visit isn't too stressful for your handsome boy and that you have answers soon.

We have an appt with an oncologist at Angell Memorial in Boston on Friday. I decided to just go straight to the specialists at this point so we could be sure to get the high-res views and hopefully not have to bring him to the vet twice if it is osteo (once to the local, once to the specialist...). They consult with OSU, too, so that's good.

:goodluck that you get an all clear and can be done with the worrying. I know they're very good at Angel, if very expensive. Well shoot, I can't make the sideways unhappy face guy about what they charge from my phone. :P

That sounds like the best idea. Hard to find better than Angell & combined with OSU consult it sounds like you will have covered nearly all bases.

Hoping for the best!
