Jeff
T got bit by a snake tonight. His lower left front leg is swollen pretty bad. We squeezed as much venom and blood out of the the two punctures as we could. The e-vet (phone) told us to give him 75mg benadryl, an antibiotic (we had 500mg Cephalexin) and Prednisone which we did not have. Ice to help control the swelling. Said he should be able to handle most local venomous snakes, but if it was a rattlesnake, she has no anti-venom, and the 2 dogs she has seen with rattlesnake bites did not make it. It has been about an hour and a half, and the swelling is pretty nasty, but his skin is not turning black, and he is not panting, she said those are two tell tale signs of a rattlesnake bite. Hopefully he is around in the morning for a vet visit.

Guest Swifthounds
Poor T. If it has been a while since the bite and you aren't seeing the signs of a rattlesnake bite, it probably wasn't a rattler. Odd though that they wouldn't have rattlesnake antivenom.
Trihounds
Wow, that's brutal. Poor T...better not have been a rattler. Hope you guys have a safe night and T shows signs of improvement. greyhead
I'm so sorry about T! Glad it's not getting worse. I seem to remember hearing that whoever was making antivenom quit making it. Jeff
Will T's blood disorder have an effect on this? it took a long time for the bite holes to clot, so we could squeeze blood venom out of him for a while lol
