She was initially started out on a fairly high dose of pred because she had crashed and burned hard before she was diagnosed, high fever, blood work totally out of whack, and was hospitalized for 5 days. Because of the muscle wasting and weight loss after several months on the high dose of pred, she was put on Azathioprine, 1/4 tab every other day, and weaned off of the pred. She did well for a month, and crashed and burned again. So a low dose of pred, 2.5 mg was added to the Azathioprine. I've noticed the past two weeks the slightest of jaundice to her skin off and on, which absolutely sent my stomach lurching since I lost Skittle, my white pitbull to liver failure shortly after she turned 5. She went in this morning to have labs done, and pending the results of those, the vet may want to do a fasting liver bile acid test on her. I'm trying hard not to worry, not to project. I cherish each day that I have with her. I call her my little poo-eating ballerina (yes, she is one I have to watch like a hawk in the back yard when it comes to poo not yet gathered up). She's a silly little bugger just plum chock full of love. She and Ku'a are tagteam wresting partners. I'll know either this afternoon or tomorrow morning on the lab results. Guest Tenderhearts Posted September 2, 2010 Share Posted September 2, 2010 Well the good news is all the lab work, including the liver panel, came back within normal range. Of course, I will continue to keep a close eye on her. This has not affected her appetite, nor the tag-team wrestling that occurs several times a day with Miss Dot, Sissy, and Ku'a. The vet said for my own peace of mind, I could bring her in the next time she has the slight jaundice (it's always transient, and her gums/whites of her eyes remain normal), hasn't eaten yet, and she'll do the bile acid test.
