We are already consulting with Dr. Totten. She is amazing. She saved Moose last year. Thanks for thinking of us. Just say some prayers tomorrow after 9 a.m. and it will help. Today labwork: bilirubin, electrolites, and resting cortisol are all normal. Addisons is out. Results were faxed to Dr. T, the internist, for tomorrow. Anne, I'm doing just that. I would call but I don't think I could hold it together to talk. VinnieAndRexsMom Posted May 12, 2010 Author Share Posted May 12, 2010 Looks like lymphoma :sad Red had a complete workup at the specialty clinic with the internist who took care of Moose. It looks like we are dealing with lymphoma. X-rays and ultra sound show Red's speen is huge and is pushing his stomach forward. He has ancathocytes (spikey blood cells). She did a needle aspration, a smear, and sent it to Purdue. We are waiting for confirmation, which should be in a couple of days. The internist said we could treat with prednisone. I spoke to my vet and we have decided to try it now -- before the results come back-- to try and get Red some relief. If the pred doesn't work, or if we cause his gut distress should he begin to eat, I will not let my boy suffer. Thanks for all your prayers and support. This is so difficult. He's such a very special boy and I know he's had a wonderful life with you and your family. It's better to know what's going on, even though the news isn't good. Her daughter has been with Red all day, and called Tonya to ask her to come home right away. Red is bloated to the point where Tonya can't feel his ribs and has been unable to lie down all day. He's just been crying in pain all day. Red wanted to go for a walk, so they went for a walk, and he wants to go for a car ride, so they are leaving to go for Red's last car ride and his last trip to the vet.
