Just seeing this and feeling terrible for you. We went through all kinds of stuff with Spencer's intestines a year and a half ago. I know how tired and lost you can be. Lots of prayers from us for Red, you, and DH. :grouphug

Minus the diarrhea, this sounds so much like my Wizard's story. We are still struggling. With Wizard, the prednisone the internal med specialist put him on made him very sick very fast- much more loss of appetite, much more slowness, head tremors, panting, spells of clear discomfort, pacing. Specialist wouldn't consider prednisone was causing trouble for him, but our vet found it had caused trouble for liver, kidneys and electrolytes (via bloodwork) and we are weaning him off. The improvment is there, but it is very, very slow. While he was on the prednisone, one of his original problems, constant pooping and peeing in the house with no warning, stopped. It still seems better now that he's on a very low dose of prednisone, but he is pooping and peeing in the middle of the nite, so his schedule is still "off". His original prednisone dose was 20 mg 2x day. He's now getting a quarter of that dose.

The diagnostic work we've had on Wizard includes: full bloodowork, full thyroid testing, urinanalysis, stool testing, xray, and ultrasound. The xray showed only massive amounts of intestinal gas (something that can cause pain) and the ultrasound showed the same plus slight thickening of intestinal walls, so we have a tentative dx of IBD as well.

Since I don't know how my Wizard's story will end at this point, I can't really give you advice, but I hope the above gives you some ideas. I don't know if it helps to know someone else out there is going through a similar thing. Wizard is 9 1/2, so they are similar in age, too. Hugs to you both. Mystery illnesses are the worst. :grouphug

Is your guy on Pepcid to counteract stomach irritation from all the meds he is on?

Are his stools turning dark?

Wizard ended up with darkening stools (blood in them) from the prednisone given without Pepcid.

Thanks all :)

Yes, Susan, it helps to know we are not alone. Thank you. I know you have been dealing with this for awhile. Last week I was afraid Red was going to leave very soon. Maybe not. I will revisit Wizard's thread. Thanks again :)

I am giving pepcid because he seems nauseaus, and because he is on the metacam. I am taking in urine today. Couldn't get enough poo to test.

Good news is that last night he ate half my New York strip all on his own. He came up and asked for it. He did have discomfprt later on as it started to go through I gave liquid kao-pec to help, and I don't knwo that it gave him any comfort. This morning he had a soft poo that was a bit orange looking. Not the usual pale kao poop.

I am watching red. Of the three things he loves most: cookies, loves, and walks, he is only turning down the cookies. He is asking for loves as much as ever, and he practically drasgs me on walks. Since Friday, he has had to stop and take a rest, but then we move on. We went for several walks yesterday... short ones, but many, and he wouldn't go the same direction twice.

Thanks..

The metacam has been helping whatever pain it is that Red has. He still pants when he has to pee or poop.Today I took him in to see Dr. C. He said someone should have warned him. He was taken aback by the way Red looks. He has lost 5#s in the last two weeks since Dr. C has seen him. He has lost 6 ounces since Friday. He is a little dehydrated, so I had to leave him for IV fluids. They are pulling more bloodwork and sending it to an outside lab this time to check other things. His pee is concentrated nicely but showing some signs of bilirubin. Dr. C said that it may be because he is not eating. Red's teeth are officially awful. Vet feels it is because of the negative state he is in. Dr. C is making him an ultrasound appointment at the speciality clinic where we took Moose for as soon as they can get Red in. They did Red's ultrasound last fall.

Red is not good. Not good at all.

My heart is breaking.

Thanks all.

Thanks, Lucy; I will. I thought we'd be talking about LP this summer... not this :sad

We have an ultrasound appt Wed. 9 a.m. Dr. C consulted with Dr. Totten, the board certified internist who saved Moose last fall. Dr. T asked that we change to tramadol for the pain to save any further gut upset. Red does look better after his fluids.

Hoping for answers.

Prayers of strength for you and Red. Are you in Ft Wayne? The eVet clinic my vet ownes has an IM specialist Dr (Amy?) Totten. If you're coming here I wish I didn't work on Wednesday, I'd meet you at the clinic for moral support, it's 5 minutes away from me.

I know what a horrible roller coaster ride this is, but wait til you find something out from the ultrasound. I'm glad fluids helped, and I'll bet he will feel more comfortable on the Tramadol. More hugs to you both. I'll be waiting to hear about the ultrasound. Is that Wednesday tomorrow? Hang in there.
