Canyon Is Not Doing Too Well :-(

We've done all we can to help Canyon heal without surgery. It hasn't worked. :cry1

I have a call in to Dr. Nick Sharp at Canada West Veterinary Specialists and Critical Care Hospital, who did the MRI and spinal tap. Dr. Sharp is 1 of only 3 Board Certified Veterinary Neuro Surgeons and is world renowned. Canyon couldn't be in better hands, but we are still worried sick. As I mentioned before, there is an 80 - 90% chance the surgery will work for him. If it doesn't, we will be out of options. :cry1

Dr. Sharp's communications liason just phoned, and Canyon is tentitavely scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. (They already have a big surgery earlier on Wednesday, and may not be able to get to him.) Otherwise, it will be on Thursday around 1:00PM. The surgery will entail a ventral slot, removal of the disc matter which is impinging on the spinal chord and senesfenestration (all of which I'm off to google).

I have asked Dr. Sharp to get back to me regarding stronger pain meds too.

Oh, no. I'm sorry to hear he has to have the surgery; but hopefully he will be in the VAST majority of dogs who are helped by it!!

Oh Annie, I'm so sorry. I know you really wanted to avoid this and not put him throught it.

He is always in my prayers, and like someone else said, he WILL get well, nothing else is acceptable. He's been such a trooper and now it's time to get rid of that pain and heal.
