rascalsmom
I can certainly sympathize with you. Buddy went through something quite similar, a corneal abrasion that didn't seem to heal, and we ended up going to a specialist. He did develop pannus as a result. But he's a trooper, and doesn't mind his daily ointment. I hope all goes well for you... Quote Phoebe (Belle's Sweetpea) adopted 9/2/13. Burpdog
Jake handled the whole thing really well. I don't think I could stand still while my eye was scratched, even with freezing. Please keep him in your prayers that it heals this time. Good thing they deaden (sp?) the eye One of the few things I could not watch was SieSie's grid being done. Sending prayers! greyhead
In humans there can develop a condition called corneal erosion (aka corneal ulcers). Many times it is preceded, though not caused, by a corneal abrasion like this. (The reason I know about this is because I had it.) With corneal ulcers you get healing, but then another episode follows. In severe cases you get lots of episodes. What's happening with this condition is the "glue" that binds the cells together gives them up, so to speak. Instead of sticking to each other in a normal fashion, they stick to the inside of the eyelid. When the eyelid moves, as with blinking or REM sleep, it tears the stuck cells from the cornea. I'd second the recommendation for a veterinary opthalmologist. Hang in there, and good luck. Rickiesmom
Janet, that looks scary - I would definitely take him to an opthamologist. You don't want to find out the problem is bigger than you think too late. Hugs to both of you - this has to be stressful for both of you - probably more for you. ETA: If you need to bring him down here, you know you guys can camp out with us. Edited February 8, 2009 by Rickiesmom
HopeForHounds
I should have mentioned, an opthamologist has been consulted, At this point Jake is pretty much on track. He told us that second and even third grid treatments are sometimes necessary. In this case they are pretty sure it was a second injury. The vessels are showing on the cornea and that is realy good news. Funnily enough he has a small bump on the eyelid that is likely from the original injury, speculation is that it is itchy and he has been rubbing it.We have always had some concern about how slowly Jake heals, andit seems he is proving it again. I do love my problem child.
