Not really an update on Ranger. Just an update that I completely forgot all about video taping him this weekend. :blush

I'll see if the DH can explain all this to me tonight and I'll grab some shots. I have one on my old cell phone of him racing around the backyard, so I can practice YouTube with that one cuz it's funny.

Nothing to report, it's business as usual around these here parts :)

Thanks for all the responses, it's nice to know that this journey is for more than just us sitting here wondering what is next.

I saw that Ranger was getting frequent EKGs. Are you in a study that requires it? If so, wouldn't they pay for it? If not, I would question the Vet as to why the frequency. For people, you have one EKG before adriamycin chemo starts and you may or may not have one after they are all done. I did not have one at the end of chemo.

Willie is getting them frequently as well. I am wondering if it is because they are getting 5 doses of Adriamycin. I believe it has the potential for causing heart problems. OSU does not reguire EKG but maybe if the problems arise OSU will alter the protocal :dunno I guess 5 doses of adriamycin is not standard protocal for treatment of osteo but rather a combo of chemo drugs. I guess it is just a precaution.

I'm with greydogluvr ... I don't know why, but that's what my local vet has in the plan. Originally, my local vet was going to do 6 doses of chemo. It was OSU that recommended 5. After I questioned the last ECG/EKG (I don't know what the difference, if any, is), they told me it was because there is a limit to how much their hearts can take and they need to make sure they aren't overdoing it on his heart. :dunno

Trust me, I would LOVE for OSU to be footing the bill. Unfortunately, that isn't the case ;)

embers doc said the adriamycin can damage the heart. he had a big doctor speak explanation for it. we never did the ekg, but he would listen for a murmur each time we went. im looking forward to seeing a video of ranger running. its amazing isnt it.

Adriamycin can cause heart damage and the risk increases as the total sum increases. The heart echo before chemo checks to make sure there is no underlying heart issue. If there was, usually a different chemo is selected. Morgan had a heart murmur so he was given carboplatin instead. Some human oncologists will do one at the end of chemo to check for damage, but most don't unless there is a suspected problem. There is a lifetime limit on the amount of adriamycin that's considered acceptable risk. I had my lifetime limit. My oncologist is a specialist at a teaching hospital in Boston and he did not order an EKG after chemo. Since you are footing the bill, you may want to push back on that one.

Mango's 56 days post-amp and she ran for the first time yesterday. There's a landmark to look forward to for dear, dear Ranger! And I can tell you, it's a wonderful sight to see them take off with abandon and without any thought of being different.

UPDATE: Day I don't know what cuz things are bad ...

I will give more details later, we took Ranger to the ER early this morning and they diagnosed him with pneumonia. We brought him home with some antibiotics and found ourselves turning right around and going back because he could not breathe. Further investigation found air on the outside of his lungs (3L were removed during a chest tap). He is now in ICU and we don't know how this will end. They, of course, want to do $4K of testing. We are not willing to put him through that many tests, surgeries, etc.

Please pray for our boy that he recovers well on his own (with the help of some ICU angels and good opiates!) and can come home tomorrow.

I will update more later when I'm not crying so hard.
