A sweet, spunky, little black schnauzer who was given to her at a time in her life when she was mourning the loss of her Pom, Little Bit (who died in a tragic accident, drowned in the pool). Medea was resistant to having another pup, but within a few hours he had wiggled his way into her heart. Then he began doing many little things her Little Bit would do, and she took this as sign, it was meant to be. Toby was Medea's constant companion. He moved with her from Oklahoma to Dallas. Then lived in a hotel with her when her then husband became abusive. She was in fear for her life and had to "go into hiding". When we lost our jobs in Dallas, Toby made the long road trip with Medea to New Jersey. They had to live in temporary living again and little Toby became depressed. I had relocated to Connecticut and was still out of work, so I drove down and brought Toby to live with us for the summer. We had the best time, taking long hikes in the woods and 'hunting' frogs at the waters edge of a nearby pond. It seemed like every walk we went on, by the time we returned home Toby would have twentyelleben leaves and twigs stuck in his shaggy coat. Sometimes he’d 'pick up' branches that were so big that he was just dragging them along behind him. All the nearby groomers were booked solid that summer, so we had to give him a ‘homemade’ haircut. It looked awful, but he no longer carried the forest home with him. Toby loved women most of all, and no matter who threw his toy, he’d find me wherever I was in the house and drop it at my feet. Toby loved frolicking in the snow and wearing his T-shirts. When he was happy, he would do his 'bucking bronco' dance Just before Medea relocated from New Jersey to Chicago she found out that Toby had a heart condition. He’d had a small seizure while out on a walk. His condition was easily controlled with medication, but it also meant that he could never be put under anesthesia. The last time I got to see Toby was Easter of this year. He even spent a night with me, curled up on my coat beside my bed. Last weekend Toby had had another seizure and Medea was going to take him to the vet on Tuesday to have his meds adjusted. But when she got up that morning he had passed on, peacefully in his sleep. His little heart just stopped working. Oh Toby, we are all so sad to lose you, little man. I’m going to miss you so much. You have no idea how many times you 'saved' your Momma when things were so hard for her. Run free with the angels now sweetie, and please send your Momma a sign soon.
