Brit chose our family in Sept of 2002. She picked out my DH at a show n' tail by wiggling into his lap and then cockroaching so he could give her a proper belly rub. We took her home to foster and she was our first failed foster. She came into our house like she'd been there all along and fit in like the final piece of a puzzle. She was the whole package, smart, beautiful, patient, bitchy, bossy, affectionate, silly and just plain fun. She just adored my DH. She loved us all, but she was always daddy's girl and you could usually find the two of them together whenever he was home.

Our gorgeous girl was a white faced beautiful mahogany, silver and dark brown brindle with a white tipped tail. I never knew quite what color she was so we just called her "Brit-brindle". She was a true alpha and ruled her kingdom with a benevolent paw. The other dogs and all the fosters seemed to just know that she was the queen bee and usually deferred to her highness. On rare occasions, when a foster would decide they were in charge, she'd give a quick correction to put them back in their place and peace was quickly restored in the castle. She was one of the very few bitches I'd ever met that would lift her leg to pee. She never had an accident in the house, everything she did was quite deliberate. She was a prancer and even towards the end of her life, when walking and standing became difficult she would trot and prance when she went outside.

One day, several weeks ago, she tried to get up from her bed and couldn't. She'd start to get up and slowly sink back down. Her rear left leg just wasn't working for her very well and was becoming very painful(we now know it was her hip). We took her to the vet where she was diagnosed with possible LS and given medication, which helped for a while. Eventually though, her symptoms returned and no amount of medications were helping enough. Over that period of time, her muscle mass on her left rear side deteriorated and even though she still enjoyed eating she began losing weight. I was so glad i had bought a box of Burpdog biscuits at our fair the week before as she adored them. I'd sit with her and feed her the biscuits one at time at it brought her joy.

We had decided that when the day came that we could no longer control her pain we would help her cross the bridge. Sadly, that day came yesterday morning.

Yesterday morning, we took our baby to the vet and I held her head in my arms and told her we loved her as she passed. We got to say goodbye to her and it was a peaceful passing. I'll miss seeing her pretty white face when I wake up and her prancy dance at dinner time. We were blessed to have her in our lives.

Run free sweet girl. You'll be missed but never forgotten

That was a lovely tribute. You understood her so well, and loved her so much---she was exactly where she was supposed to be. I'm so sorry you lost your precious girl.
