Guest trevdog
I'm glad to hear it's not kidney issues. Hoping you have a quick answer soon and something that can be easily remedied.
MP_the4pack
OK NO kidney problems. However when they checked the results her protein levels left major cause for concern so they took more blood and sent this sample to the lab. Last weeks protein level was 5.4, this week was 4.7. We sent all the tests to the kennel vet and he confirmed and agreed with all analysis. He was also concerned with the protein levels. So now we wait again. I should know something tomorrow. The kennel vet said I should ask about Protein Losing Interopathy. He said it is usually seen in dogs with loose or soft poop but that it has been known to occasionally occur in dogs with firm poop so if something is going on it is something he suggested we look into. When I know more I will post more. I hope it's not, or if it is, you caught it early. This is what Topaz was diagnosed with 4 weeks before she went to the Bridge. She was 5 yrs old. The protein losing enteropathy was due to liver disease. The regular liver test were normal, but when they did a liver function test they were completely off the charts. I'm sorry to bring such a bad outlook, but I remember how overjoyed I was to find out she didn't have cancer. Little did I know. Lots and lots of prayers coming your way. Bevd
The kennel vet said I should ask about Protein Losing Interopathy. He said it is usually seen in dogs with loose or soft poop but that it has been known to occasionally occur in dogs with firm poop so if something is going on it is something he suggested we look into. When I know more I will post more. Just wanted to mention that my Buddy (lurcher) was diagnosed with 'most probable' Protein Losing Enteropathy a few years ago and her poops were totally firm and normal. In her case, her first symptom was water retention and it caused big swelling around her face, neck, legs and stomach. After many tests which ruled out one thing then the next thing, the only thing left was PLE and my vet said he classed it as 'probable' because (a) they didn't want to do a gut biopsy (because if it is PLE the gut can be difficult to heal) and (B ) normally, stools are loose, whereas Buddy's were not. She had a special diet and some medication for a number of months (plus an egg a day to increase her albumin levels) and was eventually weaned off the meds/special diet and has been fine since. (With the occassional water retention/swelling which may nor may not be related). I'll see if I can find the link to Buddy's thread but it may have gone during pruning. Guest greybookends
Just got off the phone with the vet and proteins are good. What had concerned him in the first tests was the creatinine. He said that for a greyhound .5 - 1.6 is normal and Sheana's is 1.7. The inhouse test showed 1.5 but when they sent this last set it was again 1.7. So he wants to do another set in a month to see if it is setting a pattern and going up. If it is then we will start looking at treating her kidneys. Until than as long as she is still acting fine not to worry but if there is any change to bring her in. So now we wait another month to go for more tests, otherwise she seems totally fine.
