Merlin Is Back From His Dental Today

Recommended Posts

I got home about an hour ago. I couldn't stand still when I arrived at the vet's to pick him up, I was like an excited teenager. :offwall:rolleyes:

One of the vet techs went through everything with me for the longest time - this is why I stick with this vet office, even though they're a good 25-minute drive from me. They are amazing, grey-savvy and their bedside manner is unmatched.

I feel so relieved that it went well - no extractions and no issues during the dental. I haven't had a chance to look at Merlin's teeth yet. He whined a bit when we left the office, and was clearly disoriented. My poor baby!

Anyway - he is lying on the couch at the moment, really out of it. I offered him a bit of cold filtered water, he refused it. I think he just needs to be left to sleep right now. At one point he had his eyes open but was obviously sleeping - kinda freaky!

He took two really long pees before we got home. He hasn't pooped, but I am planning to take him out again later. He's had no food since last night, so probably not much to poop anyway. He got a little gassy during the drive back -- I was driving past the marsh and remarked to myself how particularly pungent it smelled today -- until I figured it out! lol

Later, I'll offer him some food. I've been told to offer him the choice between either soft food or his regular kibble with some canned food mixed in.

Thanks for all the good thoughts! So glad to have my doggie home.

Wonderful news! I just posted on your last thread wondering how Merlin was! I'm glad to hear of a good outcome from a dental! There's been a couple of scary ones lately! And with Bueller scheduled for his dental on Friday, I've been extra nervous! Merlin's excellent results sure make me feel better! Way to go Merlin! Tiger, Bueller and Domino are sending Merlin some doggie kisses too!

WooHoo Merlin! Good job - now you get to do what Gracie did when we brought her home - sleep it off  It took her about two full days to really be herself again - but I loved her white teeth when she finally smiled. And now with clean teeth there should be no stopping Merlin from getting all the girls!

Good to hear he's back home with you and things went well. Now he needs to get back on his feet because from what I understand, he has the "ladies" lining up for him. Get well Merlin

Glad he's doing well. Arty was totally out of it for a while after his dental, too. When we picked him up, he was still acting totally stoned. StonerArty.jpg

I'm sure Merlin will be back to his usual self tomorrow.

Good to hear that he is home and doing well. Our vet told us not to feed Andy anything after his dental and just give him water and then go back to normal feedings in the morning. They never did this before but have started this protocol as of late. We gave Andy a small snack before bed time when he had his dental done last month and really he didn't even care for food... and is something, since that is his #1 passion.

Glad to hear everything went well. I hope he got some good rest and is up and ready for more treats, love, and getting that questionnaire together for the lady hounds!

Hooray for Merlin (and his Mum)! :yay Glad to hear it went well. Did they give you a report card on his teeth? We always get one and I'm always so embarassed...mostly C's... :blush

This time he did get a B for plaque & tartar buildup, because my husband has been so diligent about brushing his teeth. :)
