Guest LdiSaphire Posted February 11, 2008 Share Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) Some of you may remember me...I originally had the ID Saphire....and we owned Art4Greyhounds....and had 3 beautiful fur babies...Rachel, Will and Dude...and of course my 4 skin kids...Then I disappeared...Well, the last year and a half has been an awful time...and in the end I'm now divorced and only have Dude (I'd of lived in my car before I gave up my baby...the only thing I asked for in the divorce was my kids and Dude)...Rachel and Will both are in loving homes...thanks so much to TLC Greyhound Adoption for helping out when things got bad... Anyway...about 1 this morning Dude went out to the bathroom...was out less than 5 minutes and back in...and a half hour later started behaving very oddly...strange looking seizures but his legs were locked and he couldn't collapse....heavy panting..difficulty breathing...falling to the left...I called the vet who said get him in here...my 13 year old picked my pupper up and hauled him to the van...the vet carried him in and examined him and said I'd bet my life that we're dealing with strychnine poisoning...they started him on meds to control the seizing...got him in a low stimulus area and hooked up an iv....this morning he was still seizing off and on and they were alternating between two medicines to control it...they ran lab work that shows his vital organs are still functioning...they've forced vomiting and given activated charcoal...have IV fluids going...and at last update around 4 this afternoon they told me he had gone from looking like someone who was having a grand mal to someone with head tremors from parkinsons...he said he is starting to respond to the meds slowly...but still can't eat and drink and isn't out of the woods yet...that as long as he continues to improve he should recover...but it's just a matter of waiting at this point....we've scoured the yard and have found NOTHING that would cause this...I'm confused and hurting so bad...I can't stand the thought of losing my baby...please please pray for him....
