  1. I'm sorry for your loss! He was well loved and looked after through this difficult time.
  2. going to the specialist - updates to come in 1st post
  3. Thank you! I talked to my regular vet. And didn't get the impression he'd done many of these procedures. I'll probably calling a specialist for my own peace of mind. Thanks!
  4. hadn't planned on going to a specialist, but might call to check them out. i'm sure more $$$ will be required, but maybe it would be worth it.

    Little Millie

I am sorry to hear that it was time for Millie to leave this world. she will be missed by many
  6. We're back and the consensus is : Age related Degenerative Epithelial Disease so NOT a scratch that should heal within a couple days. we opt'd to do nothing at the moment. The split looked smaller than it was last week so we are going with the theory that it is trying to heal. more 'splits' could appear at any time - so i'll be watching her closely and if I start to see more signs of discomfort - then we go back and do the needle debridement option. keeping our fingers crossed that this doesn't turn into 'the year of the eye ball' L and Spirit ********* 1/27 Spirit has an apt. today at 2. they will be doing the full work up then the burring and more meds. I'm sure. Please keep her in your thoughts today - and maybe me too,,, i understand this is worse for the worried parents than the patients. Thanks! *********** Spirit has a scratch "ulcer" on her eye -- we went in last week, got the eye stained and with the ultraviolet light could see a nice scratch on her left eye. We have no idea how she got it! prescription cream antibiotic something "neomycin and polymyxinB sulfates and Bacitracin Zinc" after a week using the cream, she is still squinting with her eye - it is still weepy and draining and we go back in to the vet - where they stain the eye again - and yes, the ulcer is still there. They gave me 2 options: 1. take small amount of blood - spin it to get a serum and use that as an eye drop - I guess the eye doesn't have the blood circulation to have efficient healing 2. debride (is that the right term?) the current ulcer : basically making it worse with a small scraping then using the above eye drop to help the healing along. I think option 3 should be continue with the cream, it might still heal - but maybe not??? seems a little weird - and thought i'd just ask here - DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? i've been stuck in the world of PLN and CHF for so long with lazer that i wanted to get a second opinion with the GT community --- knowing there are several vets who could chime in. Thank you and Spirit Thanks you too! L-
  7. I am a huge believer in anything colloidal silver. I have a cream that I use on the dogs for just about everything. don't know what that rash is but I hope it goes away soon. . For good!
  8. when we lived in snow country and had a 15 year old greyhound we ended up using small grain sand. the kind you buy in a tube to put in the back of your pickup truck. I spred that everywhere on the ice to make it dirty and it was not slippery. you might try that instead of the ice melt. Good luck. I kmow the worry you are going thru. when we lived in snow country and had a 15 year old greyhound we ended up using small grain sand. the kind you buy in a tube to put in the back of your pickup truck. 9. Great.. can't wait to hear/see what the blood values. sounds like you have it under control and are doing the very best you possibly can for your boy! I'm glad you didn't get scared of with all of our posts: I was looking for your reply.
  10. There are many ways to tackle Kidney Disease, I'm sorry you are dealing with this for your old Boy. If you find the right combination, your dog could live out his days with a wonderful quality of life. At the ripe age of 13,, I think I'd tend to feed my dog whatever he wants! I did this even at the age of 5, when my boy collapsed from complications to PLN (type of kidney malfunction). I chose to add supplements, essential oils, prayer, acupuncture and traditional medications - all before i changed his diet! in fact the only thing i could get my boy to eat was Raw Hamburger. a Balanced diet - NO - but he kept weight on while we worked with the other issues. My advise - for whatever it's worth Keep your boy full and happy!!! Feed him what he loves. Give some supplements to support his kidneys and medications that your veterinary prescribes. He will enjoy life more on a full stomach! My boy just had his 2 1/2yr check up - His blood work is almost perfect!! considering he came back from the dead - it's pretty amazing! He is happy and playful and I expect him to live FOREVER!!! he still eats WHATEVER he wants!!! He never went on a 'kidney' diet. he is a picky eater anyway, so as soon as i see him loose weight i start to worry. But this is my story - you have to choose how you want your boy to live and I hope he will live forever!! Good luck - keep asking questions - there are many of us, unfortunately who have had to watch our babies with this disease lorinda - mom to Lazer the miracle boy and exlamation-mark abuser!
  11. I'm sorry it's Molly's time to leave you - the time we have together with our best friends is Never long enough!! I will look for her star in the sky tonight
  12. yep! but i know what your talking about - so we are ancient together! AMEN!!!
  13. Dear Greytalk Over the last couple years, you all have been very helpful, supportive and generous when it came to my boy Lazer. We have seen him go from dead, to struggling, to alive, to ALIVE AND HAPPY!!!! My December update is this ALL BLOOD VALUES ARE IN THE NORMAL RANGE!!!!!!! (eh he still is loosing protein in his urine ---- but NOTHING like before! upc ratio at .7 down from 6.5 something) we are going into 2014 with a KICK A** attitude!!! thank you GT!!! Merry Christmas and Happy & HEALTHY New Year to us all!!!! lorinda and Lazer
  14. Sounds like your on the right track! If you've tried all the above, and there is no parasites or allergy to food that you can rule out: try RX Clay to stop runny Poop,, google it - purchase on line, it's not expensive, just sprinkle on food - it absorbs excess water or Slippery Elm - get powdered, mix 1/2 tsp with hot water into a pudding constancy and syringe into mouth (no needle) 3 times a day. this will coat the stomach and intestinal track. (I make a big batch and keep in the frig. maybe 2 tblspoons of slippery elm) or Digestive enzymes and probiotics
  15. have you tried Pulsar by Horizon good quality, grain free, and reasonably priced mine all love it
  16. I have been using a holistic Tincture made by Animals Apawthecary called Spring Tonic - I has helped with the reverse sneezing. Both Spirit and Lazer have been reverse sneezing the last couple weeks - but this tonic has reduce the severity and duration. I give it 2x day. I found it at See Spot Shop up on Happy Valley and about 24th Ave. I bet it could be found at other stores.. maybe not the big box type stores though - pm me if you want me to get some for you - i can mail it - or we could MEET up!!
  17. You could try the very popular (in my house anyway) - FAT BALLS raw hamburger concoction that my boy Lazer LIVED on for several months after a serious health crisis. hmm,, sorry I don't have a link to the recipe, I think if you search on GT for it you will find all kinds of information from past threads. Good Luck! all mine that lived past 13 were very picky - every day was a guessing game and some days nothing worked at all.. it is very worrisome! but they each handled it differently and we managed to keep enough nutrition for at least one of mine up to 15yrs old!
  18. I don't really know what it is. She hasn't been seen by a vet yet - just rescued yesterday from the humane society. It definitely needs to be removed. It does seem very "topical" on the skin rather than attached deeper. I hope for her it can be easily removed and it nothing more to worry about. still haven't heard from the adoption group - maybe i'll start calling them...
  19. tough questions! and the answers~ oh so elusive I have always said, it's better to let them go on a good day --- a day too early, rather than a day late. That being said - I have seem miraculous things (Lazer) happen with the will and determination of both animal and human! So giving them every opportunity to survive and thrive is also my moto. not helpful i'm sure,, you will do what is best for you and your girl!
  20. i've been reading all morning, and feel pretty silly about my ignorance and mostly understand this is just what happens when they are not removed. they ooze. and are not contagious, just messy --- If you have any more advise for me, I'd appreciate it - Her name is Jubilee and is a total sweetie pie. slept next to me all night - the oozing started this morning after a fun romp around the yard. she is 11yrs old and was on "The List" at the humane society.
  21. I have an extremely cute whippet foster here for the next couple of days and she has a rather large hemangioma on the flap of skin from the back leg to the abdominal area on inside of that flap. Its oozing. And although I have dealt with a lot of medical issues this is something I don't know anything about and am waiting for the adoption group to call. I just put a belly band around her and and hope that it catches all the blood but I'm worried about cross contamination to my other dogs -- I don't know that might be a stupid thought but: am I spreading cancer cells all over my house?
  22. Some good essential oils: copiba, wintergreen, Valor. From young living oils. Directly on site. One drop each/3times day. Lightly massage in.
