We had to cut back a little with Sammie as well--he was panting, restless, etc. Once we figured out what dosage was working for him (more sedative), he was fine. I just had to work closely with the vet to figure this out. Good luck, its so hard when they can't tell you what is going on!

I did this about every two months with Sam for about a year. It gave me peace of mind and allowed my vet to keep on eye on his progression in late life. She had a pair of objective eyes I didn't have (although she cried as hard as I did when it came time to let him go.). -
