  1. I lost my boy on Thursday evening, 1/30/2014. His aging body, all 13+ years could no longer tolerate the pain of arthritis. Meds no longer helped. The cold weather took its toll, making even a few moments outside very difficult. With a heavy heart, I helped my beautiful Sam move to a place where he was no longer stiff and sore, where standing up was no longer near impossible. He was a gentle Ferdinand of greyhounds and always a gentleman. I miss everything about him.
  2. I'm so sorry. I've always thought her to an exceptionally beautiful GT hound. Run free, sweet girl.

    Missy

The hardest decision. I am so sorry for your loss. Run free dear Missy.
  6. When I told my vet, who is an OSU grad, that Sam was 13, she told me that was fantastic and that he obviously was well loved and well cared for. 14 and a 1/2...remarkable. Whatever decision you make will be hard. Do what you think is best for you & your friend.
  7. One inch piece of hot dog, I don't even think he tastes the hot dog, let alone the pills. He is a hog-doodle.
  8. I am also so sorry and most of us know this struggle and crossroads you and your girl are standing before. Good thoughts for you both.
  9. 300 mg 3xs a day, but for arthritis, not LS.
  10. I'm so glad you posted this. I had been a bit worried about the effects of the meds on my boy Sam. He just started acting weirder, not sleeping at night, pacing, panting. He's just had a full work up and we see the vet every few months for a check over because of his arthritis, his meds, and a lump that keeps going up and down (its been aspirated, B9)--so physically, he appears to be pretty sound. He got up twice in the middle of night last night and my husband said, at 4 am, I think he has dementia. Ding, ding, ding--I thought of this thread. I asked my DH why and he said that he thinks that sometimes he forgets he has just been out--stares at the window when the blinds are down, seems lost in the middle of the night. Dang, I did not even realize what might be going on with the old guy was beyond his arthritis and meds. Will talk with the vet very soon about this. Hugs to all the oldie parents.
  11. I know what you mean, I have to use hot dog pieces.
  12. My boy does not have LS, but some significant arthritis and is on several meds. He is 13. I don't have any advice, I think it is a personal decision and I am guessing that you are very close to making the decision for your girl. I do understand, it is so difficult to watch them struggle. The cold weather is not helping. I wish you peace in your decision, whatever that is. Mary Ann
