  1. I'm so sorry you lost your boy. Run free Best.
  2. I'm so sorry. She was an absolutely beautiful girl.
  3. Emma was very beautiful. I'm so sorry that you lost her.
  4. I can't believe I'm having to write this so soon, I thought he'd live forever. We lost Rocky on Sat morning to hemangio. Totally unexpected and we're in shock still. I feel like my heart is broken. I don't know how I'm going to get from day to day. I got Rocky as a re-po. He'd been adopted for a couple of months but they were letting him run loose. I had to pull him out of the pound. Supposedly he was jumping out their window. Oddly enough, he never jumped out a window at our house. He was the best dog anyone could ever ask for. He was my best friend. Everyone who ever met Rocky loved him. I wish I could write a wonderful tribute to him, but my head is foggy and the words won't come. Rocky, there will never be another like you.
  5. I think she's currently seeing the veterinary dermatologist. That's who did the consult w/ the human one.
  6. I think food allergies were one of the first things they ruled out. May have even done allergy testing, but I'm sure Cheryl will say for sure. His foot does look a lot worse the last couple of months. I took a picture of it the last time he stayed with us because I wanted to see if it changed while he was with us. Wooty hasn't gotten it and my dogs haven't either as much as they've been together.
  7. Callie was such a special girl, I'm glad I got to know her. She made an amazing difference in Pixie's life. Kelly
  8. I'm so sorry you lost your boy. I also think it was probably Osteo. In the last couple of years I've, unfortunately, known more than one dog who's broken a leg doing absolutely nothing. The first was a foster that we rushed to the vet. First x-ray showed a horrible break clean through but no signs of Osteo. We ran the x-ray over to a radiologist at the specialty vet and they were able to see the beginnings of Osteo. Second time was a friend's dog who, again, broke a leg doing nothing but standing up. Took her to the vet and first x-ray showed no Osteo. They rushed her to the specialist to do surgery and when they opened her up the vet could tell there was Osteo. My vet, who was the one who treated the foster dog, said legs just do not break like that over nothing.
  9. Maddy is a whiner. She learned it from a foster dog several years ago. Drives us INSANE. She whines for no reason at all. Sometimes she just stands in the middle of the room and whines. She also does a whine that's very soft, but at just the right tone to grate on your last nerve. Nothing works. Ignoring her, yelling at her, squirting her, putting her outside. Must be the stubborn broodie in her. I keep threatening my friends that love her that they're going to find her tied to their front porch some morning.
  10. I had a guinea pig and 2 birds when I got Molly. She was fixated on them both, but would back away with a squirt bottle. They can try covering the cage to see if that helps (out of sight, out of mind), but truthfully if they can't distract her at all and there's no way to put the chin behind a closed door, I'd be worried for the chin's safety. Our dogs are gated in our lower level when we're not home, but even so we still make sure the door to the office where Camilla (the chinchilla), the rabbit & hamsters are is closed.
  11. Found it! Here is Helen with - the sprayer head, dish towel, jeans pant leg (?), kong and a tennis ball. About 5 minutes worth of collecting for her. She was VERY proud of herself.
  12. Molly was a collector when we first got her. Anything that wasn't nailed down went in the crate (shoes, alarm clocks, screwdriver, flashlight, etc). She never destroyed anything, just collected it. I think it's fairly common for new dogs to do. We had a foster dog take her foster mom's purse into her crate. One of my recent fosters was also a hoarder. She even found a hose sprayer head out in the yard somewhere and had it in her crate. I have a picture of her somewhere with all her "stuff" in her crate. I think they usually grow out of it once they settle in. As long as they're not chewing things up I think it's sort of funny.
  13. I'm so sorry. He was a very handsome boy! I know how hard it is to lose your first greyhound.
  14. I know many of you remember the brindle girl who was loose in Kansas in August. Shortly after the shelter found her she had two puppies. Kansas City REGAP took her and her puppies in and her foster family renamed her Hope. I just got the below email from Robyn at REGAP, and she asked me to post it here since she knew many of you had followed Hope's story and had been so happy that she had found her forever home. Run free sweet girl, I'm so happy you had your forever home and had found your couch. Lickity Split--who was renamed Hope by her foster family--was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 11/7/11. She had a significant amount of pain, which her family was finally able to get under control with large doses of meds, but she also had a significant amount of swelling which made the vet suspect that she may have had a microfracture. To spare her further pain, we made the very difficult decision to let her go this past Saturday. She was an amazing dog, in the short time she was with us she raised her pups to the point they were weaned and became a beautiful, happy dog--looking nothing like she did when we first got her--she loved playing with her toys and pups, and discovered just how comfortable the couch was. Her time with her foster family was far too short, but she was very much loved and will absolutely be missed. Even though we didn't have her very long, we all feel blessed to have known her. The pups--Luke & Leia--are still with their foster family, and we hope to find them a "forever home" soon--if their mama was any indication, they'll be amazing dogs!Robyn StoneKCREGAP
  15. I've had good luck getting dogs to eat again with Merrick canned Grammies Pot Pie. I've had several foster girls who didn't want to eat after their spays and every one has started again w/ the Grammies Pot Pie. It used to always get Mimi to eat as well.
  16. I'm dog sitting a guy with the same issue. They've done antibiotics, scrapings, sprays, etc. and while it looks better for a while it flares back up again. He's on a limited ingredient food & they wipe his foot down when he comes in from outside but it's still red. He leaves it alone for the most part, but he does have a couple of sores now on his toes where he bumped it. She took him to a canine dermatologist who consulted with OSU (they didn't have any ideas) and also with a human dermatologist at one of the medical schools in town. They're thinking it's something similar to roseacea in humans. I can't remember exactly what they said it was, I'll have to ask her. Their suggestion was to try a cold laser on it to see if that would reduce the swelling of the blood vessels. I think she's going to give that a go when she gets back, and also talk to him about prednisone to see if that might help short term. Very odd though, the vets here are pretty puzzled.
  17. We tried the Salmon and they were OK with it. Switched to the Turkey a few months ago and they're REALLY happy with it. They had the Salmon at ours for a month or two before they got the Turkey in.
  18. Oh No! Ouch! Prayers from St. Louis for Willie
  19. I've heard vinegar douche works. Luckily I've never had to try it out.
  20. I'm so sorry about Ruby. I know what a special girl she was. I'll miss hearing about her, but I'm sure your boys were thrilled to see her again.
  21. I think they almost always do better when you remove the happy tail that won't heal. Once it gets to where it doesn't want to heal I think it's a battle you're not going to win. Hope she's feeling better soon!
  22. Rocky and Maddy usually play with both of them standing up. At first we weren't sure if it was all play since our other girls never played like that. I think you can't be too careful, especially at first when they're feeling each other out, about making sure it doesn't get out of hand. Luckily Rocky and Maddy are both pretty non-alpha. The two laying down are/were the bosses and would put a stop to it when it got out of hand. (in their eyes).
  23. I'd just watch them. When we first got Maddy we were careful when she and Rocky played because they get pretty wound up. This is them playing not too long after we got Maddy. They're not quite this wild anymore (they're old hounds). Strangely the 2 play police sleeping didn't put an end to this They've never played outside, but if they did we would have muzzled them.
